Caroline Ewart Obituary

EWART, Caroline SUMTER, SC - Caroline Moore Ewart, 86, of Sumter, died Sunday, June 2, 2006, following a long illness. She was born in Philadelphia, PA a daughter of the late Robert and Lucy Mortimer Moore. She was past president of both the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 15 and the Sumter County AARP both from which she received awards for her dedication and devotion. She stayed active at St. James Lutheran Church, was a long time member of the choir, the church women's group and the group's past president, a member of two different chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star in Sumter and a Worthy Matron of the Order twice, was a volunteer and cabinet member of the United Way of Sumter. She was a two year volunteer for Tuomey Hospital's Hospice Program and was appointed the hospital's Hospice Volunteer Coordinator. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Heyward Bruce Ewart, Jr., who died in 1972. Surviving are three sons, Dr. Heyward Ewart, III of Sumter, James D. (Donna) Ewart of Charleston and Thomas C. (Dale) Ewart of Florence; eight grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2006, in St. James Lutheran Church in Sumter. Burial will follow in Arlington Memorial Cemetery in Drexel Hill, PA on Saturday, July 8, 2006. The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 p.m., Thursday, at St. James Lutheran Church in Sumter. Memorials may be made to St. James Lutheran Church, 1137 Alice Drive, Sumter, SC 29150 or to Tuomey Home Services, attn: Hospice Program, 115 N. Sumter Street, Suite 410, Sumter, SC 29150.
