Caroline Deer Obituary

Caroline Rose Deer MT. PLEASANT - Caroline Rose Deer, age 20, of Mt. Pleasant, SC, born on July 2, 2003, passed away in Greenville, SC on April 14, 2024. Caroline was the beloved daughter of Francis Deer of Mt. Pleasant and Christine (Weber) Deer of Mt. Pleasant. Surviving are her grandparents, Carol Kelly of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Barry and Frances Gossett of North Charleston, SC. She was predeceased by her maternal grandfather, Richard Kelly and paternal grandfather, Raymond Glenn Deer.
Also surviving her are Malcolm and Lisa Scott, her uncle and aunt of Mt. Pleasant, SC and their children, Andrew Scott of Cary, NC and Alex and Shelby (Olsen) Scott of Johns Island, SC; uncle and aunt, Glenn and Jennifer Deer of Mt. Pleasant, SC and their children, Ariel Deer of Orlando, FL and Ethan Deer and Hayden Deer, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Also surviving is her uncle, Brian Weber of West Yarmouth, MA and his children, Zachary Weber and Madeline Weber also of West Yarmouth, MA. She is also survived by her father's significant other, Erin Cobb, and several great aunts, uncles, many second cousins and countless other friends.
Caroline graduated from Wando High School in 2021. She was a first semester senior at Clemson University, majoring in Genetics, scheduled to graduate in December 2024. Because she earned the majority of her academic credits and had been on the Dean's List several semesters, the University will posthumously award her a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Genetics at a ceremony in the future. Caroline was planning a career in medicine and exploring her next steps following graduation. In addition to her studies, she was a Pharmacy Technician for CVS in Seneca, SC and had previously been a Sales Associate at Target in Mt. Pleasant.
Caroline's genuine smile and spirit, contagious laugh, glass half full view of life, and wonderful hugs will be remembered by all who had the honor of knowing her. She loved walking on the beach, waterfalls, hiking in the mountains, listening to music, going to concerts and exploring off the beaten path places. Her sense of adventure and curiosity knew no limits.
Caroline made the decision at an early age to be an organ donor. Her life is living on in many others that have already received her very special gifts following her passing. Caroline's family is blessed and comforted with this knowledge. She was a selfless young woman until the very end.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that tax-deductible donations be made to the Caroline Rose Deer Memorial Fund. All donations will be used to fund a scholarship in her name at Wando High School for a female senior who will attend Clemson University planning to major in the biosciences or healthcare. Donations made be made payable to the Caroline Rose Deer Memorial Fund and mailed to Merrill Lynch, Attn; Joel Gershon, 110 N. Wacker Drive, 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60606. For electronic transfers, please email [email protected] for instructions or call 312-696-7525.
