Carol Hinson Obituary

Carol Hinson WALTERBORO - Carol Key Hinson, wife of Paul Hinson, left her earthly life on Sunday evening, September 8, 2013. Funeral services will be held at 2 PM, Wednesday, at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 355 Hampton St., Walterboro, SC. Burial will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Parker Rhoden Funeral Home. Carol was the daughter of Thelma Griffin and Sidney Milton Key of Walterboro, SC. She was a graduate of Walterboro High School, a student at Columbia College, and graduated from Charleston Southern University. Carol was a true caregiver, demonstrated by her 35 year career at the South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS). She devoted her professional life to the service of those in need. She worked or supervised every type of program provided by SCDSS, and her duties spanned from the local to the state levels. Carol cared deeply for her family. She spent eight years caring for her mother who had a degenerative disease. In addition, she cared for many members of her extended family. Carol served her community in many ways. She was a lifelong member of Bethel United Methodist Church, and was a faithful member of its chancel choir. She enjoyed genealogy, and was a member of the Colonel Joseph Glover Chapter of the South Carolina Daughters of the American Revolution. Her hobbies included painting watercolors and gardening. She served as president of the Mayfield Garden Club, and was a member of the Coastal Camellia Society. In addition to her husband Paul, Carol is survived by cousins, to include: Paula B. Finlay (Keith) of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Daniel (Dodie) Garris of Williams, SC, Julian T. Garris (Carol) of Summerville, SC, Lawrence P. Garris of Columbia, SC, Melville G. Padgett (Cheryl) of Williams, SC, Mary K. Reeves (Mike) of Eastover, SC, Richard Rentz (Lillian) of Branchville, SC, Kathy K. Rollings of Columbia, SC, Mary K. Rosier of Branchville, SC, Carey W. Speaks (Howard) of Walterboro, SC, Duncan G. Warren (Beth) of Williams, SC. Carol was also survived by her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Wayne and Brenda Padgett of Smyrna, GA, her sister-in-law, Jane Padgett of Summerville, SC, and a brother-in-law, Melvin Tritapoe of Berkley Springs, WV.
