Carol Hernandez Obituary

HERNANDEZ, Carol Andrews - Carol Ward Hernandez, 77, the widow of Ernest Williams Hernandez, Jr., went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at the Pine Crest Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Honey Hill Cemetery near Jamestown, directed by the Andrews Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home. Mrs. Hernandez was born December 27, 1931, in the Charleston, the daughter of Homer Allen Ward and Pearl Vivian Wilson Ward. She was a graduate of Memminger High School, Charleston. She devotedly served beside her husband, Marine Master Sergeant Ernest Hernandez as they were stationed at Camp LeJeune, NC, Honolulu, HI, and San Diego, CA. She was an editorial writer for the Georgetown Times for many years. She was a charter member of the Pine Crest Baptist Church where she served in the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class, Tuesday Morning Bible Study Class, and was the president of the Women's Missionary Union. She has faithfully served for over 41 years in the Pine Crest Church music department as pianist, organist, and choir director for the adult and children's ministries. She was a private piano and vocal instructor for many of the local musicians of Georgetown and Williamsburg counties. She leaves behind four children, Rhett (Dianne) Hernandez, Eric (Tammy) Hernandez, Cindy (Casey) Powell, all of Andrews, and Christine (Robbie) Sox of Greenville; two brothers, Beverly A. Ward of Hendersonville, NC and Robert W. (Elaine) Ward of Tampa, FL; one sister, Micky Gaynell (Marion) Freeman of Charlotte, NC; thirteen grandchildren; and fourteen great-grandchildren. In death, she was re-united with her parents; her husband; and her son, David Hernandez. McKenzie Funeral Home is honored to serve the Hernandez family.
