Carol Joanne Bruins Charleston - Carol "Lucy" Joanne Bruins, 78, of Walterboro, wife of John Henry Bruins, passed away on Sunday, October 1, 2017, at Medical University of SC. Friends and family are invited to attend her visitation on Thursday, October 5, 2017, from 6 o'clock until 8 o'clock PM. A graveside service will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, at 11 o'clock AM at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. Lucy was born on December 14, 1938, in Crookston, MN, daughter of the late Robert Norman Raymond and Josephine Marie (Schipper) Raymond. She worked in retail stores and managed Howard Johnson's Restaurant. She also taught cake decorating classes for the Vocational School. Lucy took many caked decorating classes at Edmonds Community College. She also took many painting classes using watercolors and oils. She wrote a country gospel song named "Church Windows and Rainbows." She owned and operated her own business, Hales Imports, for many years. She loved to help and give to others. Surviving in addition to her husband, John, are: two children: Gary Allen Hale and Teresa Rene Byrd both of Walterboro, SC; three grandchildren; two stepchildren: Rose Gillis of PA, and Richard Bruins of Stoneville, NC; fourteen stepgrandchildren; seven greatgrandchildren; three sisters: Jill McKay of Seattle, WA, Bonnie Cawley of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Sharon Hale of Walterboro, SC; three brothers: Randy Raymond of Washington, Ronald Raymond of Bonneau, SC, and Roger Raymond of Bennetts Point, SC. She was predeceased by her brother, Richard Raymond; stepdaughter, Rita Oyler; and stepson, Raymond Bruins.
