Carlos Hammond, 86, of Athens passed peacefully into the arms of his Savior on Feb. 15, 2025. Carlos was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He spent over 60 years in the car business, building a successful career through hard work and determination. His wisdom and relentless pursuit of knowledge - especially of God's Word - set him apart. More than anything, Carlos was a man of deep and unwavering faith. For over 50 years, he dedicated his life to sharing the Gospel, giving his personal testimony, and leading others to Christ. He never met anyone without asking the most important question: Do you know where you're going to spend eternity? His commitment to spreading God's love and truth was unmatched, and those who knew him often said he was the most consistent witness for Christ they had ever met. He was a man of both strength and kindness - tough when needed, with high expectations, but always generous, compassionate, and loving. His greatest earthly treasure was his family. He and his beloved wife, Jackie, shared over 60 years of marriage. His family was blessed by his guidance, love, and example of what it meant to live a life dedicated to God. Carlos took his final breath at home, just as he had always wanted, surrounded by loved ones. While our hearts are heavy with loss, we rejoice in knowing that he is now in the presence of the Lord he so faithfully served. "Well done, good and faithful servant … enter into the joy of your Lord." - Matthew 25:23 Carlos was preceded in death by his parents, Laster and Syvilla Hammond; and brothers, H.L. Hammond, Leon Hammond, Marvin Hammond and Willie Hammond. Survivors include his wife, Jackie Arrowood Hammond; son and daughter-in-law, John and Shonda Hammond; daughter and son-in-law, Alisa and Dan Bebb; grandchildren, Judge Hammond, Parker Bebb and Charley Bebb; and sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Randy Dodge. The family will hold a private graveside ceremony on Friday, Feb. 21. Pallbearers will be Richy Willet, Jimmy Haynie, Randy Toomey, Carlton Ealy, Judge Hammond, and Parker Bebb. A drop-in Celebration of Life will be held on March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Tyler Center of Central Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Miracle Lake in Etowah. Smith Funeral & Cremation Services of Athens is honored to serve the family of Carlos Hammond.
