Carlisle Hudson Obituary

HUDSON, Carlisle WALTERBORO - Mr. Carlisle Neil Hudson, husband of Mary Lee Whittle Hudson, died Saturday evening at Chandler Hospital in Savannah after an extended illness. He was 72. Mr. Hudson was born March 6, 1934, a son of the late Edward Palmer Hudson and Bessie Breland Hudson. He began his automotive repair career as a mechanic at Glover Motor Company in Walterboro while he was in High School. He later became the owner and operator of Walterboro Auto Electric in the early 1960's, and continued to operate the business with his son Steve until his health declined. Mr. Hudson was a member of Bethel Methodist Church, and enjoyed spending time with his family at their mountain home in Saluda. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, and a grandfather that cherished his grandson. As a man that spent his life in the wrecker business, he was accustomed to working odd hours in all kinds of weather conditions. It can honestly be said that he never turned his back on anyone in need, regardless of their financial or personal situations. His strong work ethic carried him throughout his life. Surviving besides his wife of 50 years are two sons, James Carlisle Hudson, and Steve Hudson, and wife Sabrina, of Walterboro. There is one sister, Janie Louise Crosby, of Ruffin, and his cousin, that was raised as his brother, Harold B. Crosby, of Walterboro. Mr. Hudson has a grandson, Landon Walker Hudson, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Edward Ewell Hudson and James Franklin Hudson. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, with burial following in the Bethel Methodist Church Cemetery in Ruffin. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. PARKER-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME of Walterboro is in charge of arrangements. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.

Tourist family

January 10, 2007

10 years ago my family wanted to go to Disney land and we saved our money to take a vacation. we were on the interstate and we broke down. Mr Hudson pulled us in and checked our vehicle and told us it would take a few days to fix. My wife and children were very upset and crying. we are from NY and Mr Hudson he did not like women crying. he had one of his service men talk to us about renting a vehicle and take our vacation and when we came back our vehicle was ready. Mr Hudson will be sadly missed by all people and especially the tourists like we were in our time of need. may his business continue.

Neil Hudson, you were a father figure to me for the last 10 years, as you were probably a father figure to many in Colleton County. You will not be forgotten with your kind heart. Your grandson, Landon talks about you everyday and says that he is sure your working on all of Gods cars and trucks in heaven. I'm sure he's right. I will make sure he remembers you. With lots of love, Dad. Sabrina

God only made one--Neil Hudson--
A business-minded man, a man of laughter,a forgiving, sincere, compassionate, always looking for better tomorrows, enjoying the present, and facing the problems at work with "we've got to have a heart to heart". Small in statue but big in heart and understanding He was a great man in his own rights and in the outreaches of the state of SC. He thrived on helping everyone. To have known him is to love him: we are blessed to have had a friend, business man as he was here in Walterboro.

Neil, a Master Mechanic, who always was learning many things from his customers. He taught and shared his work experiences with all his customer from Cars to 18 Wheelers. Neil told many times of a good lesson he learned from his friend, Dolphus Boodle, who taught him to always put the nuts on the bolts to make sure they were the right ones before the customer left.
