Dear Carl who I believe is in heaven and thinking you and how our class reunion could have been if you were there. On Earth you spent your life taking care of people and in heaven you have found a way to do more. It was special to know you on Earth. Someday there will be a special class reunion in heaven. A lovely soul gone toooo soon and you are truly missed!!! Your presence will always resonate throughout Sumter Pediatrics, forever. My daughter Geneva and I met you when you first came to Sumter Pediatrics, in 1994. Dr. Key and you were her doctors, until she became 18 years old. In 2015 (Jacob) and 2017 (Joshua), you and Dr. Key were my grandsons' doctors. My grandson Joshua saw you on November 7th and 9th, but you already left the facility for his recheck at 0930, on the 13th. I truly miss our conversations about current events, your smile, your sense of humor, knowledge, and the way you made my family feel at eased. You were a down to earth person and you will be miss dearly! Your buddy of 40 years, Dr. Key, is missing you dearly! I am still in shock that you are gone, but it was a pleasure to have known you.

I had the privilege of working with Dr. Whetsell while employed by Tuomey in labor and delivery. He was such a delightful person and caring physician. He touched many lives and is remembered fondly by this nurse. May the Lord comfort and keep those left behind. God speed, Dr Whetsell.

Dr. Whetsell was my grandson's pediatrician. He was kind, patient, compassionate and sympathetic. He had a way of putting his young charges at ease. The medical community has lost a priceless gem. Dr. Whetsell was the best pediatrician that a child could have. He was always so jovial,upbeat and extremely personable. Both of my daughters 31 and 20 years old were served by Dr. Whetsell. He made each patient feel special and made each visit a pleasureable one, even if it was a sick visit.He offered to allow my daughter to shadow him because she was thinking about becoming a pediatrician just like Dr. Whetsell. He has been just like a "Super- Hero"in our eyes. We will miss him and we will never ever forget the contributions he made in the Sumter community.

Carl Whetsell. A tall, skinny, classy, very smart, good-looking boy I once went to high school with. Of course everyone who knew Carl knew he would be nothing but successful in life. But to read here what a full life he did indeed live and the mark he made on the lives of so many, this is one man that our Lord is indeed welcoming home saying Well done, thou good and faithful servant...Matthew 25:21.

Dr. Whetsell was my children's doctor. They loved him. He was always so kind. My children are now 31 and 26 years old and was very sad to hear about his passing. Praying God's blessings upon the family.

Dr Whetsell was an exceptional pediatrician to our twin sons while stationed at Shaw AFB. As nervous parents of newborns, his sound judgement and patience boosted our confidence. This was evident when we discovered one of the twin's was born with a hernia. Dr. Whetsell immediately scheduled the surgery and reassured us that everything would be fine. He was the perfect doctor for our family and we feel so blessed to have had our boys cared for by him and to have known him. By pure coincidence, I was in Sumter when I learned of his passing. God bless Dr. Whetsell and may he rest in peace.

Carl is like family. We grew up together in Summerville, SC through elementary, high school and college. I read through all of the remarks that his friends, patients, and family made and can certainly attest that he has always been that smart, genuine, kind soul. May his family find peace in knowing that he meant so much to so many people... that his living was not in vain. Rest eternally in heaven my friend.

My son Harrison was heartbroken to hear of his passing! He is now 21 years old, but can tell you stories of every visit. Dr Whetsell even kept up with his health after he was no longer a child! His loving heart will be missed!

I remember 18 yrs ago giving birth to my son, Dr. Whetsell came in and asked my son what was he doing born on his birthday. He had such a sense of humor. He will be missed greatly. to have doctor whetsell as my dsughter and nieces doctor since my daughter was born she would be six next year the day before he die that Monday I had to take my daughter to the hospital and my niece because they was sick dr whetsell really didn't looked like his self really wasn't smiling wasn't joy in the face wasn't his self at zll I knew something was wrong my mother had spotted him looking pal in the face she was going to tell one of the nurses to check him out but her phone had ring and she got distracted my mother just kept saying he wasn't looking like his self that Tuesday I had seen on facebook that he had passed away my heart had melt nothing but shocking news doctor whetsell you will always be miss me and my daughter and niece will definitely miss him and seeing him smile and sending my love and condolences to his family and sumter pediatrics

Dr. Whetsell was the best! I can remember when my son had to have emergency surgery and he called me personally to check on him. My son have been seeing him since he was born, and he'll be seven next month. He also was my daughter Doctor. Always had a smile on his face. Dr. Whetsell was the best doctor ever! My baby nickname was X-Man & every visit he left with 4 or 5 stickers. Dr. Whetsell was so nice and sweet. Dr Whetsell was the first pediatric doctor Neaveh felt comfortable with. We were in his office about 3 weeks ago and as usual he welcomed us with a stern handshake and a big smile. He always talked to Neaveh about school and listening to mom and dad and always doing the right thing. She is sad but strong in her faith knowing that God makes no mistakes. It is a sad time in her life but he will always be special to the Presley Family. My sincere condolences to his family and Sumter Pediatrics.

Dr. Whetsell was such a sweet, loving, caring & all the above doctor. I couldn't ask for a better pediatrician for my children. Dr. Whetsell always entered the room with a smile & shake my hand. I loved how he interacted with my children. He would always pick them up & play with them first before examining them. He always made them feel safe & secure & not afraid of the doctor. Even if they started to cry he would find a way to calm them down even if it was giving them a handful of stickers. Dr. Whetsell was a very sweet & caring person. He always had a smile on his face every time I saw him. He was the best pediatrician I could have ever ask for. When he enter into the exam room he would always greet me with a hand shake & ask me how I was feeling. Then he would ask what going on with Marquies& Markel. Each visit he would ask Markel what story you have to tell me this time. He would ask Marquies how is everything going & how he was doing in school. He always told them to keep up the good work. I took the boys in to see him on the Monday the12th. He told Marquies if he wasn't better in a few days to come back & see him. Who knew that would been the last time we saw him. Our hearts our broken. He will be miss by all who knew him. We love you Dr. Whetsell& we miss you but we know that you are resting in the arms of God.

You will truly be missed. I can't thank you enough for the love you showed my sons at their appointments over the past 19 & 16 years. God has gained another angel.
