Carl Taylor Obituary

Carl R. Taylor EDISTO ISLAND - Carl Randle Taylor, 89, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, June 19, 2024. A graveside memorial service is planned for Wednesday, June 26, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Presbyterian Church on Edisto, 2164 SC Hwy 174, Edisto Island, SC 29438. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Carl was a long-time resident of Edisto Beach, South Carolina, where he was an avid fisherman, loved shrimping the waters surrounding Edisto, and was affectionally known by many as "Captain Carl". He loved his community and enjoyed telling everyone he met that "Cool breezes blow on Edisto". He was the son of the late C.O. and Mildred Taylor, and was preceded in death by his siblings, Mark Taylor, Larry Taylor, Keith Taylor, Myrna Stokes, and Tanya Goff. He is survived by his devoted, loving wife of 65 years, whom he adored, Ellen Duncan Taylor (affectionately known to him as ET), his children, Kyle Taylor (Dina) of Blythewood, Kim Morgan (Randy) of Charleston, and Todd Taylor of Lexington, grandchildren, Brianna Taylor, Colby Taylor, Bradley Morgan, Christopher Morgan, Austin Morgan, and Conner Morgan, great-grandchild, Ava Morgan, siblings Amelia Schaffer, and Otis Taylor (Ann), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. Carl was employed by the Exxon Mobile Corporation and retired as the Southeast Safety Director. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling with Ellen and was proud to be a part of the Shag dance community. Carl was honored to be inducted into the South Carolina Shaggers Hall of Fame on February 21, 2016, Beach Shaggers National Hall of Fame on October 13, 2018, and National Living Legends of Dance. He loved dancing, loved the Shag community, and was blessed to have so many friends and loved ones within the community. Carl was most passionate about his faith in Christ and was honored to lead the worship music at Edisto Beach Baptist Church for many years. Carl loved life, he loved his wife, children, grandchildren, and family, he loved his Shag family but most of all he loved the Lord and is now blessed to hear those longed for words, "Well done, good and faithful servant. Thou hast been faithful over a few things; I will make thee ruler over many things. Enter thou into the joy of thy Lord." (Matthew 25:23) The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Agape Hospice for the wonderful care provided for Carl. Words cannot express our appreciation to our Agape Angels Sinitia Akin, Robin Varn and Kay Hembree, who were the absolute best dream team we could have ever hoped for. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that charitable donations in remembrance of Carl may be made to: The Ellen Taylor Foundation for Junior Shaggers, The Brianna Taylor Foundation for the Arts-Carl R. Taylor Scholarship for dance education, or the Hall of Fame Foundation. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

We are honored to have known Carl. He was such a wonderful person and friend to all who had ever met him. Ellen, we can't imagine the grief that you must be going through right now, but rest assured, Carl is where he was destined to be, looking down at his beautiful family and knowing that he did everything right. Keep on Shaggin'. We will miss you Carl and Ellen, we love you.
