Carl Joseph Rowland, Jr. CHARLESTON - Carl Joseph Rowland, Jr., 86 years old of Charleston, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, November 29. Born in Charleston, he was the son of Gertrude Kanapaux Rowland and Carl J. Rowland, Sr. Carl was predeceased by his wife of 35 years, Frances Berry Sullivan Rowland and by two brothers: James Rowland (Mary) of Columbia SC and Thomas Rowland (Pat) of Isle of Palms, SC. He is survived by 5 brothers: Christopher Rowland (Pat), Leon Rowland, Leroy Rowland, Monseigneur Charles Rowland, Ronald Rowland (Nancy), all of Charleston, SC and one sister, Eleanor Tolley (Joseph) of Altamonte Springs, FL. Carl is survived by 6 children and 3 step-daughters: Carl Joseph Rowland (Paula), Bruce Charles Rowland (Lynn), and Monique Sullivan Rabin (Steve), of Aiken, SC; Robert Ernest Rowland (Marianne), John J. Rowland (Sharon), and Susan Sullivan Reich Schmidt of Charleston SC, Lynn Sullivan Gonzalez (Tony) of Lexington, SC; Edward J. Rowland (Salley) and Chief Petty Officer Patricia Rowland Grantham of Washington D.C. Carl's loving family includes 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Carl served in the USAF, graduated from the Citadel as an Electrical Engineer, and retired from Naval Electronics Systems Engineering Center. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Good Counsel (OLGC) Catholic Church. Carl was a lifetime member of the James Island Yacht Club. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, December 5, 2014 at OLGC, Folly Beach SC, at 12 pm. The family will receive friends in the church beginning one hour prior to mass.
