Carl Merting Obituary

Carl Merting N. Charleston - Carl Alfred Merting, 92, of North Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 27, 2018. Funeral Services will be held graveside at 2:00 PM, Saturday May 5, 2018 at Carolina Memorial Park with Chaplain Cooper officiating. Family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 PM at Carolina Memorials Funeral Home until the time of the service. Carl was born August 26, 1925 in Lincoln, NE, the youngest son of Karl A. and Gertrude B. Merting. He served on the USS Makin Island in Composite Squadron 84 during WWII, worked at and retired from Charleston Naval Shipyard, and was a member of North Charleston United Methodist Church. He is predeceased by his wife Mary H. Merting. Surviving are three sons, Bob (Deborah) Merting of Walterboro, Rick Merting of North Charleston, and Mark (Connie) Merting of Summerville; grandchildren, Sara Evans, Robert Merting, Carl Merting, and Jacquelyn Merting; and great grandchildren, Alanis Hamilton and Braxton Evans. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Veterans Victory Group, 2461 Sidney's Rd, Waterboro, SC 29488. Mary words cannot even begin to express my sorrow. You and your entire family have my deepest sympathies when I heard about Carl's passing and you are in my thoughts ,prayers and love. You and your family have a special place in my heart because of my love for Rickie. Carl was a fine man and will be surly missed by all who knew him. Although it is difficult now to see beyond the sorrow. May looking back at all the wonderful memories and good times will bring comfort in the days to come. May the God of peace and love be with you all.
