Carl Merritt Obituary

MERRITT, JR., Carl GEORGETOWN - Carl A. (Bubba) Merritt, Jr., 64, died Wednesday, September 3, 2008 in Georgetown Memorial Hospital. Memorial funeral services will be held Friday, September 5, 2008 at 11:00 a. m. in GRAHAM FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL. He was born August 23, 1944 in Georgetown County, a son of the late Carl Andrew Merritt, Sr. and the late Hazel Duncan Merritt. Mr. Merritt was a dedicated and loyal employee with International Paper Co. with forty four years of service. He was a graduate of Winyah High School and a member of Winyah Masonic Lodge No. 40 in Georgetown and a U. S. Army veteran. He loved animals and the great outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surviving are; his devoted companion, Libby Carter; children, Duncan T. Merritt and his wife Kara of Andrews, Candace M. Johnson and her husband Robert of Collierville, TN, Carla M. Mallinson and her husband Roger of Murrells Inlet, Tammy B. Martin and her husband Devin of Georgetown and Sheryl B. Walker and her husband James of Pawleys Island; grandchildren, Griffith T. Johnson, Andrew J. Merritt, Forrest D. Martin, Rivers A. Martin, Brandon A. Carter, Elizabeth B. Walker and Bryson J. Walker; sisters, Becky M. Cox and her husband Robert of Anderson and Kathy M. Goodwin and her husband Paul of Georgetown; his former wife Jeannie T. Merritt of Georgetown and a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, J. Larry Merritt. I have known Bubba all of my life. He was truly a genuine human being. I remember the smile he always had on his face and the dry wit he would use to "one up you". He will be missed by everyone whoever had the pleasure to know him. God bless you all.
