Carl Carlson Obituary

CARLSON, Carl Carl E. Carlson, 45, passed away Sept. 27, 2008, in San Francisco, CA. He will be laid to rest with his parents, John C. Carlson, Sr., and Frances Redmond Carlson, at Bethany Cemetery, at 10 Cunnington Ave., Charleston, at 3 p.m., Saturday, October 18, 2008. Friends and family are invited to attend. Carl was born in Oakland, CA, on March 9, 1963, into a traveling Navy family, the youngest of six. His father was a roommate of Jimmy Carter at the Naval Academy, his mother, a Southern Belle from Charleston. He graduated in 1981 from Lake Howell HS in Florida where he was a star football player. He attended and graduated from the University of Central Florida with an engineering degree. While there he sharpened his athletic prowess as the leading rusher for the college football team in 1982. He began his career at Cape Canaveral where he worked on the Stinger Missiles, Boeing 727 and the Space Shuttle. His career led him to exciting positions in Alabama, California and Utah where he maintained the home dear to his heart in Eden. He loved every kind of adventure, traveled to the far reaches of the world, climbed the Teton mountains and others, hiked, biked, skiied, snowboarded, fished and more. He was a loving, kind, caring, thoughtful, funny, and generous son, brother, partner, friend and co-worker to all who knew him. He will be tremendously missed and his memory always a joy to those he leaves behind: his girlfriend and soulmate, Violaine Delelienne and her sons, Sebastien and Hadrien; his sister, Crystal Joy Carlson; his brothers, John Courtney Carlson, Jr., Daniel Carlson, David Carlson and Matthew Carlson; nephews, Garrett Carlson and Forrest Nestor; niece, Andrea Carlson; sisters-in-law, Sue Carlson and Joan Anderson; uncles, Harry Redmond and Earl Redmond, and many cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Parkinson Foundation, Crisis Ministries, Pet Helpers, or a local charity. Visit our guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.
