Carey Sullivan Obituary

Carey Lee Sullivan SUMMERVILLE - Carey Lee Sullivan, son of Doris M. Sullivan, of Summerville, SC and Richard J. Sullivan, deceased, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 21, 2015 at MUSC in Charleston. He was predeceased by his father and his maternal grandparents, Catherine and Walter Harden of Cumberland, Md., and his paternal grandmother Hilda E. Pugh Sullivan of Southern Maryland. Mr. Sullivan was born January 26, 1959 at Memorial Hospital in Cumberland MD, moving to the Charleston area the summer of 1960, eventually residing in Hanahan. He attended Hanahan schools. Through the years he was an electronics technician. He enjoyed cooking, and for a time he worked at numerous restaurants, among them the Belle Isle Club in Georgetown and the Poinsett Club in Greenville, where he studied to be a sous chef. He became ill at age 38, with a chronic condition, and was eventually disabled. A lifelong lover of music, he taught himself how to play guitar and practiced diligently, sharing that love with others, especially young people. Survivors include his twin brother, Craig L. Sullivan (Cheryl) of Goose Creek, SC, and three sisters, Diane P. Murray of Hanahan SC, Catherine E. Rubinstein (Mitchell) of Charleston and Lisa C. Todd (Timothy) of Chattanooga TN, and 19 nieces and nephews, who affectionately called him "Uncle Scary." Tri County Cremation Center in Summerville will handle his cremation as was his wish, and his ashes will be scattered later at a location of his choosing. A memorial service is planned for 4:00 PM on Thursday March 26, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in North Charleston. The family will receive friends at 3:00 PM in the church's social hall. Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1444 Remount Road, North Charleston, SC 29406, the Lord's Ladle, where he briefly volunteered his cooking skills, at Goose Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Red Bank Rd., Goose Creek SC 29445, or to the National Kidney Foundation, Finance Department, 30 East 33rd St., New York, NY 10016. The family wishes to acknowledge their grateful appreciation to the staff at the Medical University for the wonderful care he received as a patient.
