Carey Justice Obituary

Carey Smith Justice WALTERBORO - Mrs. Carey Smith Justice, wife of the late Lt. Col. Harold Eugene Justice (USMC), died Tuesday evening at the Medical University of South Carolina after an extended illness. She was 81. Mrs. Justice was born in Cottageville March 3, 1935 a daughter of the late Mendel and Marjorie Perry Smith. She was a true "military wife", always supporting her husband through his career as an officer, and ensuring that their children were raised in a loving and caring home. Throughout her life she was actively involved in military support groups and civic organizations. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children: Michael Shannon Justice of Walterboro, Robin Eleanor Taylor (Lindsey Carroll Taylor) of Gambrills, MD, and Dr. David Alan Justice (Leslie Robinson Justice) of Sumter. There are two grandchildren: Amanda Kate Taylor and William Cecil Dias (Stephanie). Mrs. Justice has three siblings: David L. "Jack" Smith of Olar, SC, Mendel Smith Jr. of Jacksonboro, and Patricia S. Queen of Asheville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Joseph "Rhett" Smith. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. A graveside service will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 in the Annie E. Young Cemetery in Pikeville, KY, where she will be interred beside her late husband.
