Christopher Rivers
August 15, 2021
In the mid-1960's, my grandmother, Ella Moseley Rivers, was recently widowed and had recently moved from the house she had lived in for thirty years to a much smaller house, in which she would live alone for the first time in her life. It was a time of tremendous pain and loss and loneliness and anxiety. Fr. Chassey, then the rector at Holy Trinity, was literally a godsend to her. I don't know much about the particulars of his ministrations to her, but I heard her praise his kindness, patience, and gentle manner, many times over. I am guessing that mostly he was just willing to listen to her and to offer words of comfort that soothed her soul. What I know for sure is that he was able to bring light and hope back to her at a time when she was in great need of it; some would call that a small miracle.
Rest in peace, Servant of God, and rise in glory.
