I just thought of Calvin the other day. I really miss him, he was a "model" young man, such an inspiration. If more people in the world were like Calvin, we wouldn't have the myriad of trouble in the world that we have.
I have a feeling, though, that his spirit is doing all that is possible to make the world a better place.
May all of your memories of such a fine son help you hold your head high, and comfort you through the sad times.
With heartfelt compassion,
Susan Johnson

To Mrs. Washington, siblings, family and friends. I want to send out my condolences to you are deeply from the bottom of my heart. I've ad the pleasure of entering SCSU along with Calvin "Wando" we called him in Fall 2005. we also played on the Jazz Ensemble together since then...personally I can say him and I were the best players once entered and throughout our years of college, until Calvin left the band. :( We both were hard working and just simply had that gift of music. I remember one day last year, I was in jazz band class and Calvin walked up to the door...I said "Hey Calvin.."he stepped back because he didnt want our instructor to see him..he came back to the door...I whispered "man we need you in here..please please come back"..Calvin played the bass guitar for us as well as the cello. If Calvin didn't know how to make anything else talk, that couldn't actually talk, he made that cello talk. I've never heard anyone play that cello the way Calvin did. I also loved loved to hear Calvin play those timpani drums..oh my..Calvin was just awesome in music. He had the gift and I thank God that I had such a person and friend, PMA brother, LB in my life like Calvin Washington Jr. He is truly missed in my heart and family stay strong. God makes no mistakes and he was ready to have such a great, humble, talented musician as Calvin in his kingdom. I will continue family to keep you all in my prayers. Love You Calvin...May you Rest In Peace Eternally now with the Lord. Stay strong Washington Family. God Bless!

Mr.Calvin Washington will be missed during our worship services where he was introduced to us by a graduated SCSU Music Education Major, Mr. Benjamin Davis in 2008. He and other SCSU students, Jospeh Daise and Ronald Willams played, at Bethel AME, in Branchville, SC. Calvin played his guitar with such joy and kept the spirit of the Lord present through his wonderful smiles and performances during every worship services at Bethel AME. He brought such spirit-filled moments through his music that empowered the worship experience and I want everyone to know he was there when the church needed him with little or no charge to our ministry, he was devoted and faithful to the service of our God, our church, and community, and when my family needed him when I had berevement in my family this summer he did not hesitate to come to particapte. The Bethel AME church family, we love him and we definitely will miss him. We want the family to know our prayers are for you to find strength in God and know God will give you the comfort you need. Reverend Valarie Bartley, Pastor, Bethel AME, Branchville, SC

Dearest Mary,

Calvin's ever-present smile was a ray of sunshine that warmed my heart everytime I saw him. He was a talented musician; a dedicated student; a dear son; and, most importantly, a child of God.

Mary, you raised an angel, who has now, prematurely, but perfectly, joined all the other angels in heaven, including your dear husband.

May God hold you in the palm of His hand and comfort you always.

Sincerely,

Joni McLeod and family

Calvin was a bright and cheerful young man who made a difference in the lives of all who knew him. He made a tremendous contribution to the music life of Orangeburg--SCSU, Bluebird Theatre, and St. Paul's United Methodist Church. We shall miss him; yet we give thanks that he came our way and made a difference. Our prayers are for his family.

Mary, I am terribly saddened by the news Brandon (Ellis), my son, told me last week. Calvin was always beaming when he saw me, his delightful greetings were always uplifting and heartwarming, his spirit and energy the brightest of all of the students. I enjoyed volunteering with you, serving water to the band to which Calvin was so dedicated. We were all so delighted when Calvin returned at Christmas from college to join the band for the holiday concert - he was the star of the show, loved and respected by everyone. It is so hard for me to accept this....I cannot even imagine the depth of your sorrow at this time. Calvin's positive energy is a role model for all. I will pray for God's love and support for you and your family at this most difficult time. God bless all of you...Susan Johnson and family (Mt. Pleasant, SC)

Calvin always was an enthusiastic person, who seemed to love life. I did not know him well, but he always addressed me by my name and made me feel like he really cared about me as a person. I am truly saddened by his passing. I think that Mr. & Mrs. Washington raised him to appreciate life and to respect others in their various walks in life. I shall miss you Calvin, your smile was like the sunshine. I hope you continue to shine upon me and my family. I know that Rachel and Katie really enjoyed knowing you and that your friendship will never be forgotten. We love you

Though our interactions were few, Calvin definitely made an impact on me. It was a privilege to play with him when he guest performed with our ensemble. His cello playing skills were very impressive and his enjoyment of fthe art was evident. I will cherish the memories of those rehearsals and performance. He will be deeply missed.

I want to offer my condolences to all those who knew Calvin. We were really good friends and I will miss him forever. In just the short time that we were friends I learned so much from Calvin. He taught me so much. I will be praying for his mother and his entire family, friends and loved ones. One thing that Calvin would say about his parents is that they "raised him right". And that couldn't be more true.He is certainly someone that I will never forget. He impacted lives in his own special way and still does.
