C. Bass Obituary

Charles Steven Bass, US Coast Guard, Retired, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away peacefully on December 31, 2025, at his daughter's residence. Born on February 18, 1956, in Savannah, he was the son of the late Charles Burton Bass, Jr., and Freddie Williams Bass, grandson of the late Lacy Morton Williams and Claudine Pierce Williams. He was laid to rest at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia. A private
graveside ceremony included military honors, reflecting his valued service to our great nation.

Steve was an alumnus of Johnson High School, Armstrong College, and Georgia Southern University. The majority of his professional life was spent working with the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Paroles, while also teaching at Georgia Military College. In 1987, he joined the Coast Guard Reserve, serving active duty during Operation Enduring Freedom, and retired after 20 years of dedicated service. Later in life, Steve transitioned careers to State Farm Insurance where he worked in Augusta and Duluth, eventually retiring and returning to his family home in Savannah.

Steve is survived by his two daughters, Candace Bass Reyes (Lance) and Stephanie Renee Murray (Adam); his son, Timothy Nelson Bass (Renata); his sister, Terri Lynn Ray; niece, Korri Lynn Ray; nephew, Travis Bryan Ray; grandchildren Ainsley, Eden, Jacob, Jayden, Charlie, Addison, Chase, Callan, and Clara. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Charles Steven Bass will be remembered as a loving father, grandpa, devoted brother, uncle and honorable serviceman. He leaves a legacy of unwavering dedication to his country, a true servant's heart, and unending pride and love for his family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Coast Guard Foundation.

Worked with Steve at Chatham county Sheriff´s Department. Couldn´t have asked for a better man to wear a badge. Very kind and compassionate person . Very sad to hear this news. God bless him and family. Knowing he will be very sadly missed.

I was a friend of Steve when we were in high school. We had several classes together. He was a good friend and an easy going fellow. I wish the best for his family.

Steve was a very good person. He was good friends with my husband, Greg, until Greg passed away in 2023. He was also very kind to me and my family afterwards. May he rest in peace in the glory of God.
