Bryon Leatherwood Obituary

Bryon was my best friend in kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade. I moved to New York in the fall of 2001, a couple months into second grade. I came back to visit in 4th grade and managed to get in touch with him and we had a really fun day together, I'll never forget it. It felt amazing to get to go back to my old life for a moment and goof around with him again. I got thinking about him a few months back and decided to look him up and that's what lead me here. It's been a while now, but I wanted to say something. I'm so sorry this happened to you buddy, It's been almost 20 years since I last saw you, but this hits as hard as if I saw you yesterday. I send my deepest sympathies to Bryon's family and friends..

Bryon was my son's friend at Westview Elementary. I might have forgotten had he not reminded me at a chance meeting just a couple months ago. He remembered these two silly faces I would make, and my impression of a donkey. (Anything to make the kids laugh). He spotted me almost 15 years later.. I finally remembered this little blonde kid with piercingly beautiful eyes and a huge smile, tugging on my arm, asking me to" Please do that one more time!!!" He would see me coming and get to me before my own son could, begging me to do my little comedy act. I only have one of the several "selfies" Bryon insisted we take after an extraordinary conversation. He hugged me so tightly. I remember knowing this moment was special. Now It's absolutely precious to me. This young man is a particularly special spirit and I'm honored to know that I touched his life in any way at all. So blessed that I was able to make somebody else's kid laugh so hard that he'd never forget me. My heart is beyond broken, as is my son's, for all of Bryon's friends and family. I never want to understand the pain of losing a child. I'm praying with all my might that my words bring some measure of comfort to the person they are meant for. I'm going to overstep my boundaries now, and type the words I feel strongly promoted to share. Bryon's llife is testimony that he lived with extraordinary purpose and in the moment. Perhaps on some level he was aware that there was little time to waste. We disagreed on a few things during our conversation but he did agree that we are all spirits having a human experience. So conservative and logic based that for a moment I remember wondering if he was just being agreeable. Then he assured me he knew and I will never quit trying to remember exactly what was said. I was amazed at how respectful He was of my seemingly whimsical perspective on life. He also insisted that I text my son, and that we did. All my love and prayers to everyone involved. If you miss him, you've likely known him for eternity.

From our very first business meeting, Bryon had me laughing. Clearly, his new role in purchasing was a natural fit. Just behind his warm smile, was a bright, charismatic, fun-loving, young man who left an indelible impact on those he met. I am stunned. His loss is immeasurable.

I will always think of you when I make the 3 cheese hamburger helper and you eating biscuits with syrup and butter. I remember when you and your mom moved next door about 10 years ago, you where the first to say hello and we were blessed with your huge smile for the first time. We will miss having those dinners with you and your mom. You are so loved by so many and have touched so many lives. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing you will be a much better person. I am so very sorry for your loss. Bryon was such an amazing young man whose smile could light up a room!!!! I had such a blast teaching him his Freshman year. He always kept me smiling and even now, the thought of him makes me laugh!!! Anytime I would see him around the halls or outside of school, he would give the biggest hugs. He will truly be missed by so many, including myself.

My children grew up with Bryon. He was like one of my own. My youngest shares his passion for motorcycles and rode with him. We have fond memories shared with him. So full of life, such hope and success for the future. Our hearts are broken. A special young man gone way too soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family
