Bruce York Obituary

Bruce York CHARLESTON - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary "Bruce" York on February 27, 2025, at the age of 75. Bruce was born in Key West, Florida, on 10-27-1949 to the late Bernard Franklin York and Macy Myrl Gibbs York. He served in the United States Naval Reserves and was called into active duty during the Vietnam War era. Bruce was well known for his strong work ethic, good nature, smile, wit and love of sports....especially his beloved Carolina Gamecocks and Dallas Cowboys. Bruce worked mainly in the manufactured home business for 40 years. He was owner of the former Equity Homes, located in the Ladson, South Carolina, area. Prior to a career in manufactured home sales, he managed apartment complexes, including Broadmoor Apartments, which was located in Hanahan, South Carolina, was a salesman for WKTM radio and started a coupon booklet, called "Be My Guest", to area restaurants. He acquired his real estate license, but stayed in the manufactured home business. Bruce is survived by sisters, Judy Spence and Pam Ashley (Chuck), both of Summerville; four nephews, Derek Rickus (Dawn), Little River, SC, Scott Rickus (Lisa), Cottageville, SC, Tracey Rickus (Melissa), Cross, SC; Ryan Ashley (Denise), Aiken, SC, and many great-nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 8, 2025, at 11:00 am at the Simplicity Chapel located at 281 Treeland Drive, Ladson, SC 29456. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am prior to the service. Flowers are accepted, however, you may also consider making a donation to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300 Rockville, Maryland 20852 or The Marsh of North Charleston, 4550 Great Oak Dr., Charleston, SC 29418. Bruce lived at this start up assisted living facility for the last six months of his life. They went above and beyond taking care of him.
