Brenda Stevens Obituary

Brenda Stevens MT. PLEASANT - Brenda Missel Stevens, 78, died Thursday, March 14, 2024, in Mt. Pleasant, SC. She was born on July 30, 1945, in Charleston, SC, the oldest daughter of the late Frederick G. and Alma Note Missel. She graduated from Rivers High School in 1963 and the College of Charleston in 1967. She began using her Bachelor of Science in English/History at Brentwood Middle School after graduation. Fifteen years later, she continued her teaching career at College Park Middle School. She also earned a Master of Education degree from The Citadel. Upon retirement from her 30 year teaching career and after some traveling with her mother, she was employed by Dillard's, Thalhimers, and Parisian women's departments, earning several Salesperson of the Year awards. Her final, and perhaps most rewarding employment, came as a Wonderworker at the Wonder Works West Ashley toy store. There she became known as "Momma B" and gained many rewarding relationships with her fellow employees and customers. She retired from her professional career on her 70th birthday in 2015. She had earlier learned her retail strengths and skills during college, on holidays and during the summer from part-time sales at Garfield's Jewelers, and Anne's Dress Shop. Brenda is survived by her husband of 49 years, Dr. William E. Stevens. She is also survived by her sisters, Marcia M. Moye (Matt), Debra M. Simmons (Arthur, Jr.); and sister-in-law, Kerry Mobley Missel. Brenda was a beloved Aunt "Beanie" to her many nieces and nephews, their spouses, and children. She was predeceased by her parents and her brother, Fritz, Jr. Brenda's Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 18, 2024, in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun Street, at 11:00 am. There will be a reception following the service at 86 Chadwick Drive. The interment will be held in Carolina Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, March 19, at 1:00. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to your favorite charity. Brenda was fond of St. Jude's, The Wounded Warrior Project, and Muscular Dystrophy Association.
