Brenda Jonsson Obituary

Brenda Jonsson CHARLESTON - Brenda Turner Jonsson, 83, passed away on November 14, 2024 in Charleston, SC at home surrounded by loved ones. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed. Her memorial service will be held Friday, November 22, 2024 at 1:00 pm at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., with a reception following. Brenda was born on April 14, 1941 in Christchurch, New Zealand, where she lived until she moved to Houston, Texas in her early 20's and met her beloved husband, Haldor Jonsson. She was a cherished member of her community and a devout member of Westminster Presbyterian Church for over 50 years, where she served as an Elder and Deacon and was also a dedicated member of the Handbell choir, Flower committee, Garden committee, circle group and various other areas over the years. Brenda was deeply involved in her community through her participation in various local clubs and committees. She was an active member of The Garden Club of Charleston and the South Windermere Garden Club, where she expressed her passion for gardening and flower arranging, while maintaining local gardens throughout Charleston. She also contributed her time to the Women's Exchange Club of Charleston, served as the committee chair for the first Charleston Symphony Orchestra League's Designer House, served as PTO president, Girl Scout Club leader, and assisted with various other organizations. She received an award from the SC Federation of Women's Club for over 25 years of service to the community. She belonged to multiple bridge groups, one group dating back 50 plus years, two book clubs, a canasta group, and many others over the years. Brenda was always happy to provide a meal or assist friends and family in any way she could. Brenda is survived by her son, William T. Jonsson (Leslie); and her daughter, Mary L. Alexandre (Cary); and her beloved grandchildren: Emma Louise Farmer, Erik Jonsson, Kyle Jonsson, and Charlotte Alexandre. Brenda was preceded in death by her husband, Haldor T. Jonsson. Brenda's life was marked by her devotion to her family, her church, and her community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her contributions and loving spirit. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1157 Sam Rittenberg Blvd, Charleston, SC 29407. Arrangements entrusted to Palmetto Cremation Society, 5638 N. Rhett Ave., N. Charleston, SC 29406.
