Brenda Gaskins Obituary

Brenda L. Mitchum Gaskins, 67, of Bethera, SC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, September 9, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her cherished family and the love of her life by her side. Her funeral will be 1:00 PM Monday afternoon, September 15, 2025, at the Bethel Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the C.B. Mitchum Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dial-Murray Funeral Home, Moncks Corner, from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM Sunday afternoon. Flowers are welcome, or memorials may be made to the Bethel Baptist Church, 3060 Witherbee Road, Cordesville, SC 29434. Born July 28, 1958, in Moncks Corner, SC, Brenda was the beloved daughter of Clarence Barnwell Mitchum and Bertha DuPree Mitchum. A proud graduate of Macedonia High School, she was a lifelong member of the Bethel Baptist Church and a woman of quiet strength and deep faith. Brenda worked as a custodian for the Department of the State of South Carolina at the Charleston Naval Weapons Station, and also spent time at the Carolina Nursery and Cypress Gardens. But her most treasured role was that of a wife, mother, and grandmother. She poured her heart into her home and family, always finding joy in the simple pleasures-sewing, tending her flower gardens, and planning travels to the mountains, the beach, and beyond. A thrifty and thoughtful planner, Brenda made dreams come true, including a recent cruise to Alaska with her husband Clelle, a memory they both held dear. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Brendon C. Gaskins. Brenda leaves behind her devoted husband, George Clelle Gaskins; two sons, Joey Barrera (Gwen) of Moncks Corner and Odell Gaskins (Bridget) of Bethera; her bonus daughter, Chelsea Miller (Brian) of Bethera; two sisters, Debra Jane Morris of Bethera and Angela Lynn Marquez (Ben) of Castoria, CA; a brother, H.B. Mitchum (Wanda) of Bethera; and three beloved grandchildren, London Barrera, Joseph "BB" Barrera, and Rhys Miller. Brenda was joyfully anticipating the arrival of her fourth grandchild, Bronn Gaskins, due in October. Brenda's legacy is one of love, resilience, and devotion.
