Bob Einstein Obituary

Bob Einstein (1942 – 2019) was known for his role as the bumbling stunt man on the “Super Dave” TV series. He recently played Marty Funkhouser in Larry David’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm.”

Einstein is the older brother of actor/director/writer Albert Brooks.

He created the Super Dave character in the 1970s, appearing as a guest on many television shows including David Letterman. He starred in the “Super Dave” variety series that aired on Showtime in the U.S. and Global Television Network in Canada. The Super Dave character was known for attempting difficult stunts that always ended badly.

Einstein had a recurring role on the series “Arrested Development” as Larry Middleman and was most recently known for his hilarious recurring role in “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” as Larry David’s annoying friend Marty Funkhouser.

He started out as a writer for “The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour,” where he was part of an Emmy-winning writing team that included Steve Martin.

We invite you to share condolences for Bob Einstein in our Guest Book.

So sorry to hear of the loss of a funny guy. Who else could come up with Super Dave? He always had me in stitches, and he was so good at bumbling things that it didn't look like an act. I had to ask myself if it was real.
Thanks for sharing your talents with the world. There won't be another like you.

I read with with extreme sadness of Super Dave's passing. I cherished every role he played and every guest appearance he made. Dave (or Bob) appeared to be a genuinely nice person, He was not a super star, but a person who left a long-lasting mark and a hard to fill void in entertainment. His unique wit and humor will be missed.
God Bless Him.

Dearest Bob
There are no words, thanks for the laughs and the memories. Thanks for shaping my career and giving me my start on the Super Dave show. I will never forget our early morning exchanges. Youd say "hows my scarf? " Id say perfect then you would drive me crazy about the stars on your super dave shoes. You always teased me about losing them. Well, Bob, I know where all of the stars are now they are in the sky and your one of them my dear friend shining brightly down on all of us. Forever you will be in our hearts. ❤❤

Condolences to family..Knew Bob from Chapman College where he played Varsity basketball,an elite athlete on a powerhouse team in the sixties..He would always come to the dorms and talk to everyone, quite friendly and was always telling jokes with that great quick sense of humor that he had.Last time I saw him in person he was in front of the dorms and I was talking to him while he was in car..Seems like yesterday Time knows no past...Rest in peace Bob...

I worked with Bob the last year he produced The Super Dave Show, based in Toronto. I was a production assistant. During the last few weeks of the show, I had the pleasure of being his personal assistant. One Saturday morning I picked him up to go to a sound studio to do voice overs. He insisted that he drive. He was a kind, funny, talented man and he will be truly missed. Bless him.

Dave, my friend, I remember the very special day that I met you, as you stepped over a low 2 foot pet fence like it wasn't there as you trespassed into my yard wanting to know if the neighborhood was any good, and if it was a nice place to live? After I introduced myself, I asked you if you were the Famous Dave guy? Which, in your gravely voice you said YA. Being the always astute self you are, you took my word that it was the place to be, and you became my best neighbor, great friends, and no one better of a person to have live next door! It didn't take long for my retraining you (Ha!) into what your were naturally, the best neighbor ever! You were naturally the best, as always! Not that it is possible to be compare you to anyone, but I will since having lived in 30 some different homes, there is no question as to your ranking of being the neighbor, like the best that I had the pleasure to live next to you. So, Dave you know now that I know you are, and forever will be the best ever! This is to let you know that I Love you and your lovely wife Berta. Who my heart goes out to in her time of her terrible loss, of which I have no doubt, is and was the love of her life, it was so obvious that you were both were so in love! Which also I am sure that it was never dull or boring moment hanging with the Super Dave.
God Bless You, You are. and always will be missed! Super Dave, Bob, The Best! Good Bye my Friend! And I pray for God to Bless Berta with Peace, Tranquility, not to have her suffer in this time of tremendous grief! Berta know that you are loved by all.

Then you were loved by folks I loved in the main and substream (Larry David, And Norm). And I saw some/all/more of what my dad loved about you. I didnt know you were suffering as you were. I hope your loved ones/family can get anything positive knowing you are loved by many like me who didnt know you.RIP.
