Blandina Skilton Obituary

SKILTON, Blandina Entered into eternal rest on the afternoon of September 9, 2007, Blandina Springs Jones Skilton, widow of William Edward Skilton. Residence, Charleston, SC. The relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Service, Tuesday, at ten-thirty o'clock in the Chapel at Bishop Gadsden. Interment, Wednesday at ten-thirty o'clock in Elmwood Cemetery, Charlotte, NC. Mrs. Skilton was born May 9, 1915, in Charlotte, NC, the daughter of Joseph Atkinson Jones and Blandina Baxter Springs Jones. She was a graduate of Sweetbriar College and lived in Habana, Cuba where she met her husband of fifty years. While in Cuba, she was very active in charitable and community organizations including The Episcopal Cathedral, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of The Confederacy and the Habana Yacht Club. On moving to Winter Park, Florida after the Revolution, she was a member of Emanuel Episcopal Church and was a volunteer at Rollins College. She moved to Bishop Gadsden Retirement Community in 1999. She is survived by three sons: Harry I. Skilton (Marlene) Ponte Vedra Beach, FL, The Right Reverend William J Skilton (Lynn) of North Charleston, SC, and Richard B. Skilton (Lydia) Paoli, PA; six grandchildren: Thomas Skilton, Paul Skilton, Judi Horry, Maria Crowley, Joseph Skilton and Cynthia Skilton; seven great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to The Residents Assistance Fund c/o One Bishop Gadsden Way, Charleston, SC 29412. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, INC., DOWNTOWN CHAPEL.
