Blanche Floyd Obituary

Blanche Britt Floyd CHARLESTON - Blanche Britt Floyd peacefully passed on the morning of December 21, 2020. Blanche was born on October 6, 1929 in Darlington, SC. She was the daughter of the late John Jessie Britt and Mary Blanche Swann Britt. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. After moving to Charleston in the 1950s, she married Augustus Cribb (A.C.) Floyd and worked as a waitress while raising a family of three daughters. She was well known to many Charlestonians as a familiar face at the Francis Marion Hotel and Holiday Inn Riverview restaurants. After 31 years of dedicated service at Holiday Inn, she retired to answer her true calling, devoting time to her family and especially her beloved grandchildren. She became known to everyone as "Granny" because of her caring and loving nature for all those she encountered. Those close to her could not resist a home-cooked meal, likely to be her famous deviled crabs, fried chicken, lacey cornbread or "crispy pancakes." She is preceded in death by her beloved husband; a daughter, Brenda Floyd Martin; three sisters, Lois Britt, Mildred Biddle, and Miriam Rhea; and six brothers, Clyde Britt, R.E. Britt, Ed Britt, Cecil Britt, Baxter Britt and Claude Britt. She is survived by two daughters, Carol Floyd Atwater (Cofield) and Lisa Floyd Harle (Chris) of Charleston; three granddaughters, Jennifer Banis Talmage (Ian) of Topsham, ME, Hannah Leigh and Emma Claire Harle of Charleston; one grandson, Chad Elliot Harle of Charleston; and four great-grandchildren, Jack, Mena, Nick and Ruby Talmage of Topsham, ME. Relatives and friends of Blanche Floyd and family are invited to attend a graveside service celebrating her life on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road, at one o'clock (masks required).
