Billy Henderson Obituary

Billy Gresham Henderson VARNVILLE, SC - Mr. Billy Gresham Henderson of Pine Street in Varnville, died early Friday morning in the Medical University Hospital in Charleston after a brief Illness. Mr. Henderson was born in Chesnee, S.C., April 25, 1934 a son of the late Daniel Gresham Henderson and Irene Crowley Henderson. He had served as a Union Business Agent with the Carpenters Union, # 3130 at the Westinghouse Corporation in Hampton, and Embler Door Company Union # 3135 in Varnville. He had retired as a Mediator with the South Carolina Department of Labor. Billy spent several of his early years at the Connie Maxwell Childrens Home, and continued to support it his entire life and was a member of the Alumni Association. He had served on the Varnville Town Council and was a member of the Evergreen Masonic Lodge. He was a member of the Sand Hill Baptist Church, and a former Boy Scout Leader. Surviving are: His wife: Dot W. Henderson of Varnville; Son: Danny Henderson and wife Suzie of Ridgeland; Step-Daughter: Susan Thomas and husband Stefan of Hampton; and Step- Son: Roy Walls of Summerville; Grandchildren: Francie H. James and husband Ennis of Charleston, Janet Carra Henderson of Charleston, and Katy H. Harold and husband Fred of Dayton, Ohio; two great-grandchildren: Tanner Sadie James and Sawyer Ennis James; and a Step-Grandchild: Colby Thomas. Mr. Henderson was predeceased by his first wife: Mary Frances Long Henderson and his son: Joe Henderson. Funeral services will be 3 P.M. Sunday in the Sand Hill Baptist Church, 15480 Pocotaligo Road, Varnville, S.C., conducted by Rev. George Skinner, with burial in the Sand Hill Cemetery directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home in Hampton. Visitation will be Sunday at the Church beginning at 2 P.M. prior to services.
