Billie Tanner Obituary

Billie Lewis Tanner MONCKS CORNER - Billie Tanner, aged 91, of Moncks Corner, passed away on Sept 7 after a brief illness with cancer. Her family and loved ones were present at her bedside. Billie was born June 20, 1931, in Hemingway, SC, to Elizabeth Nesmith Lewis and William B. Lewis, Sr. She graduated from Hemingway High School and worked at Anderson Bank in Hemingway before marrying her husband of 69 years, Francis M. Tanner, Jr. in 1953. They had two children, Elizabeth Gail Ross and Cheryl Kaye Maki (Mark) who Billie lovingly mothered in her sweet, nurturing and gentle way. A true ray of sunshine, Billie was and continues to be the light, love and warmth of her family. During her lifetime, Billie played many important roles in support of her family from helping to run the family farm to office work. She was a Girl Scout leader, a Sunday School teacher, an avid gardener and artistic and creative homemaker. She loved accompanying her husband on family outings in their boat around the Low Country area. Billie was known as an angelic soul to all who knew her. She was always selfless and giving and believed in trying to follow the tenants of the Christian faith, which she did so well. Billie was predeceased by her parents and by four siblings: Curtis, Basial, and James Lewis, and Margie Collins. She is survived by her husband; her two daughters; her sister, Rebecca (Randall) Graham; and her brother, Terrell (Linda) Lewis; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends. A memorial service will be held at Goose Creek United Methodist Church, 142 Redbank Road, Goose Creek, SC 29445, where Billie was a member, on Sunday. Oct 2, at 12:00 noon.
