Billie Jackson Obituary

JACKSON, Billie Billie W. Jackson, age 92, wife of the late James Blakeney Jackson, Sr. and of Colony Drive passed away Friday, January 19, 2007. Mrs. Jackson was born November 9, 1914 in Concord, NC, a daughter of the late Charles Hoover and Lula Reid Nicholson Walter. She was predeceased by two sisters, Lou W. Spencer of North Myrtle Beach and Inez W. Balke of Fairbanks, Alaska. She graduated from Lenoir Rhyne College, Hickory, NC with a business degree. Mrs. Jackson and her family came to Ocean Drive Beach in 1946 from Kannapolis, NC. She and her husband operated Jackson Villa, a guesthouse, from 1947 until 1954 and Jackson Realty and Insurance Agency from 1952 until 1986. Long active in the community, church, and civic projects, Mrs. Jackson was a member of Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church and was the last surviving charter member. She served her church in many capacities including as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member, Worship and Memorial Committees, President of the Women of the Church, Deacon, Chairman of the Property Committee, Chairman of Deacons, Elder and Elder Emeritus. In 1993 she was elected as Presbyterian Woman of the Year. She served as Area Chairman of the Upper Grand Strand March of Dimes for eighteen years. She was a charter member of the Yaupon Garden Club of North Myrtle Beach having served as Recording Secretary and later as President; eventually becoming a life member. Mrs. Jackson held many offices on the state level including President of the Garden Club of South Carolina from 1979-1981 and also served as an Executive Board Member for eighteen years. She was a State and National Life member, served on the National Council Board of Directors and was the Blue Star Highway Regional Chairman. Surviving are: one son, J. Blakeney Jackson, Jr. of North Myrtle Beach; one daughter, Nancy J. Platt and her husband Bennie of North Myrtle Beach; seven grandchildren, C. Brent Platt and his wife Kristy, J. Blakeney "Tripp" Jackson, III and his wife Cherie, Stephen Pierce Jackson, Lauren Platt Gerland and her husband Dean, Hunter Christian Platt and his wife Susan, and Heath Carson Platt, all of North Myrtle Beach and David Matthew Jackson and his wife Amy of Roanoke, Virginia; five great grandchildren, J. Blakeney Jackson, IV, Tiffany Amber Jackson, Taylor Nicole Gerland, Ramsey Lee Platt, and Carson Brady Platt, all of North Myrtle Beach; a sister, Betty W. Bost and her husband James L. Bost of Raleigh, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Tuesday from Ocean Drive Presbyterian Church with Dr. Christopher Carlilse officiating. Entombment will follow in Southeastern Memorial Gardens directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends in the church family life center from 1:30 until 3:00 P.M.
