Billie Chup Obituary

Billie Chup CHARLESTON - Billie Chup, widow of Peter Michael Chup, passed away on April 18, 2015, at home with her children by her bedside. She was born on June 23, 1927, in Camden, SC, to the late Malure Price Hames and the late William Reid Hames. Following her graduation from high school, she began her professional career in Columbia, SC. After 35 years of service with Southern Bell Telephone Co., she retired as a business office assistant manager. She and her late husband enjoyed many years of traveling and cruising everywhere and volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House. She was also a lifetime member of The Telephone Company Pioneers. As a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church, she served the Lord as a Sunday school teacher and her passion for music kept her singing as a longtime church choir member. Everyone knew that her personal life revolved around her family. She was a loving a devoted wife of 51 years to her husband until his untimely death. As a mother, there are no words to express her remarkable life. This was surely her special purpose in this world. Her love was unconditional and reassuring; her understanding was encouraging and compassionate. She is predeceased by her husband, five sisters and one brother. She is survived by her son, Peter Michael Chup, Jr. of Ravenel, SC; two daughters, Andrea C. Dunn of Ravenel, SC and Karen C. McInnes (Peter) of Charleston, SC; two sisters, Althea Burroughs of Simpsonville, SC and Bobbie Ann Truesdale of Columbia, SC; and several nieces and nephews. She now joins her loyal and faithful canine companion, "Mackie," AKA "The Grand-dog" of the family. Private graveside services have been planned at Live Oak Memorial. In lieu flowers, contributions may be made to Pet Helpers or Ronald McDonald House. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Southern Care Hospice for every day of their care, especially to Jennifer, her personal nurse, and Dr. Marion Cooper. Arrangements have been entrusted to McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL, 2501 Bees Ferry Road, Charleston, SC 29414, 843-722-8371. Billie was one of my favorite people at Bellsouth. I worked with her in business. There is no one like her. She received the Eagle award one year and I know she is soaring with God now. She will be missed. Bless each of you at this time.

Karen, Andrea and Michael. I was so sad to learn of Mrs. Billie's passing. She meant so much to me andc I will cherish always the time that I had with her and her gentle smile is always what I will remember most. I know that she is happy again that she is reunited with her "Chip" and now they will be eternally together. Know that my thoughts are with you all.

So sorry to hear of Billie's passing. Although I've been out of touch with her for many years, I'll always have fond memories of her and "Chup". They treated me as though I was a part of their family. Wonderful people! I'm happy that they are together again in our dear Lord's presence.
