Julio Denning and I started medical school in 1951, giving me the opportunity to renew acquaintance with Bevia. Berkeley Hi was a centralized school in her day and she and others of her family spent week nights in the dormitories. (Shows that Berkeley County was very rural in that era). My parents ran the girls dorm.

Bevia supported Julio through med school by managing a rowing and boarding house -- did a great job and we enjoyed the food.

I have only known Bevia for a few months. Knowing that she has always loved painting and having seen some of her work, I watched one afternoon as she sat and worked on a drawing. Unlike others around her that were holding their pencils upright as I would have done, she used multiple colored pencils and with her second and third fingers together, she rubbed the paper, blending the colors together as only an accomplished artist would do with her paint palette. She was meticulously recreating something on her paper as best as she could. I am sure that what she envisioned was much, much more. She was happy, smiling and seemed, in those moments, to be painting once again as she had done some many years before on many afternoons in Charleston, as I have been told.

I can only imagine the landscapes that she must be painting now!. I can only imagine!
