Betty Varner Obituary

Betty Joan Revelise Varner N. CHARLESTON - Betty Joan Revelise Varner, 92, known as "Snookye" to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on the morning of August 3rd, 2025. Wife of the late John K. "Buddy" Varner for some 50 years, Betty was a dedicated teacher in the Charleston County Public Schools for some 34 years, where she worked to influence the lives of countless children who sat in her classrooms at Morningside, Burns, and A.C. Corcoran Elementary Schools. She would retire from teaching in 1994 and go on to be elected and serve as a member of the Charleston County School Board from 1995 to 1997. Mrs. Varner was a proud graduate of North Charleston High School and the University of South Carolina. Mrs. Varner is survived by her daughter, Kyle Varner Lahm (Jerry) of North Charleston, SC; son, John Kirkland Varner, Jr. (Denyse) of Minneapolis MN; grandchildren: Kaitlin Varner Cullinan of New York, NY, and Maddie Varner Switzer of Lemoore, CA; brother, Maurice Victor Revelise (Sylvia) of North Charleston, SC; and several nieces and nephews. A lover of animals, Mrs. Varner was also preceded in death by beloved dogs, Margaret, Armstrong, Muffin, Cherie, Gigi, Ralphie I, Ralphie II, Randy, Larry, Darryl I, Darryl II, Sweetie, Precious, Baby and Snooks. At her request, there will be no public memorial service, and the family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Charleston Animal Society. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Northwoods Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Yesterday

Betty and I have been very good friends for about 45 years. We have laughed together and cried together. We could tell each other things we would not share with anyone else. We did not get offended when we spoke honestly to each other when expressing our points of view about anything. A friend like that only comes along once in a lifetime. Keep them laughing in heaven! I'm going to miss our long phone conversations.
