Betty Torrance Obituary

Betty Weeks Masters Torrance CHARLESTON - Entered into eternal rest on the evening of Saturday, October 24, 2009, Betty Weeks Masters Torrance, widow of Samuel Otto Torrance. Residence, Charleston, SC. The family will receive visitors on Tuesday from five until seven o'clock at J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral services at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at eleven o'clock. Interment will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Betty was born May 5, 1921 in Walterboro, SC to the late Claudia Butler Weeks and Lawrence Elmore Weeks. Betty graduated from Murray Vocational School in Charleston. She and her first husband, the late Bernard F. (Barney) Masters owned and operated Kiddie Land Toys in the South Windermere Shopping Center in the 1950's. Betty later entered the Roper Hospital School of Nursing and graduated as a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1962. She worked in this capacity at Roper and St. Francis Hospitals and in the private practice of the late Dr. Eugene Y. Smith. Betty later worked at the Charleston Naval Shipyard where she met Sam Torrance. Betty and Sam enjoyed bowling, square dancing, and traveling with their many friends. Betty was an accomplished seamstress, a talent she lovingly shared with her family and friends. She enjoyed working on reunion committees for both Mitchell Playground and her class at Murray Vocational School. Betty was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she enjoyed her Sunday School Class and the Wednesday Morning Fun Timers. Betty lived and loved her life at Ashley Park Retirement Community where she made many new friends and enjoyed renewing old acquaintances. She is survived by one son, Bernard F. (Bucky) Masters and his wife, JoAnne of Columbia, SC; two daughters, Phyllis Masters LePrince and her husband, Grady and Joyce Masters Tullis and her husband, Tom all of Charleston, SC; one sister, Doris Weeks Pate of Charleston, SC; three brothers, Claude Weeks and his wife, JuAnne of St. Augustine, FL; Bradley Weeks of Wilmington, NC and Lloyd Weeks and his wife, Margaret of Tryon, NC; one granddaughter, Tracy Tullis Nye and her husband, Robert of Savannah, GA; four grandsons, Dr. Bernard F. Masters and his wife, Dr. Kimberly of Greenville, SC, Kevin G. LePrince of Charleston, SC, Brian T. Tullis and his wife, Katina of Chicago, IL and Russell F. Masters of Columbia, SC; three great grandchildren, Alexandra, Joshua and Claudia Masters of Greenville, SC. She was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence (Bubba) Weeks of Charleston, SC.
