Betty Thornburg Obituary

Betty Lee (Crews) Thornburg SUMMERVILLE - Betty Lee (Crews) Thornburg, 93, of Summerville, widow of Col. Brice Thornburg, passed away on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at The Village at Summerville. Friends and family may call at James A. Dyal Funeral Home on Thursday, February 25, 2016 from 10 o'clock AM until hour of service. Funeral services will begin at 11 o'clock AM. Burial will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cornelius, NC on Saturday, February 27, 2016 at 11 o'clock AM. Goodbye to a lady. A quintessential southern belle. Goodbye to a mother and friend. She's off to be with her husband, her parents, her brothers, her granddaughter Emily and many friends. She leaves a void for her children, grandchildren, and friends, but also a hope to meet again in time. Betty worked many years at the Coastal Center for Dr. Burt Cicenia. She volunteered several years at Middleton Gardens giving tours of the house. She loved Charleston, Summerville, local adventures, her family, friends and animals. Alzheimer's disease robbed her of many precious memories but created some rather interesting ones. It is a dreadful disease, though we are especially thankful for her caretaker Barbara Ogelsby, who lovingly cared for her and held her hand as she passed into God's hands. Betty leaves behind her four children: Danny Thornburg (Sandy) of Camarillo, CA, Dale Thornburg (Terry) of Rocklin, CA, Elizabeth Ann Hudson (Roy) of Fairview, NC and Jason Lee Thornburg (Lisa) of Marietta, GA; seven grandchildren: Brad, Hal, Brice, Dale, Sandra, Mary and Miles; three great-grandchildren: Raven, Aislyn and Hudson; several cousins, nieces and nephews. The entire Byers Family was blessed with the presence and love of Betty. Her dedication to the family in support of the Byers Family reunion along with Brice for the 23 consecutive years it was held speaks volume for her love of family. We will miss her greatly but look forward to the day we see her again in Heaven

Our love and prayers are with all of you at this time of sorrow. May you know the comfort of God's presence. Growing up in Cornelius I had fond memories of Betty & Brice. They both were a joy to be around. Your dad had a big box of Christmas gifts special delivered from Panama via military airplane to us in Costa Rica that my mom and dad, Ben & Jessie, sent for our first Christmas overseas. Celebrate your parents, they both loved life!
