Betty Johnson Obituary

Betty Sue Johnson, beloved wife, sister, friend, and community member, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, creativity, and devotion to family and service. She was 81. Born on June 26, 1944, in Ridgeville, South Carolina, Betty Sue was the daughter of the late Elizabeth Poland Mallard and Elison Kistler Mallard. She was raised in nearby St. George, where she began cultivating the talents and values that would define her life. A vibrant and active student, she was a proud member of the Glee Club, Band, Beta Club, and Latin Club during her time at St. George High School. Betty Sue continued her education at North Greenville College, earning an Associate of Arts degree. She began her career at Guerin's Pharmacy in Summerville, SC, where she served the community with warmth and diligence. On May 16, 1970, she married the love of her life, Alfred Frank Johnson. Their union was one of deep love and shared purpose, lasting over five decades. Betty Sue later dedicated many years to the Dorchester School District Two, where she made a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike. She retired on May 20, 2008, leaving behind a legacy of compassion and excellence in education. Outside of her work, Betty Sue found joy in singing, traveling, fellowship, sewing, and crafting. Her creativity and warmth touched the lives of all who knew her, and her generosity and spirit were evident in everything she did. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025, beginning at 3:00pm at Miles Road Baptist Church. Burial of ashes will be held at a later date at Dorchester Memory Gardens.
