Betty Herbert Obituary

Betty Louise Herbert Charleston - Betty Louise Olsen Herbert, 84, of Charleston, South Carolina, and wife of Bobby Daniel Wilson Herbert, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, at 1:00 pm. Burial will follow in the Carolina Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm, in J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. Betty was born December 23, 1937 in Charleston, South Carolina, daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Olsen. She graduated from Chicora High School in 1956. After graduation, she went to work for Pittsburgh Metallurgy, then to Dominion Sugar, and VC Chemical. After marrying Bobby, Betty supported him with his ambulance service from 1956 until 1996. She then continued to support her husband and family with their dreams and passions. Betty was a certified EMT with the State of South Carolina. She was the dispatcher for Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad for 10 years after Bobby and 4 others founded the organization in 1962. She was a member of Pinecrest Baptist Church. Betty was a member of the Eastern Star Lodge 100 of N. Charleston for many years and was the Worthy Matron of the lodge from 1992-1993. Betty is preceded in death by Joseph Olsen (Father), Blanche Olsen (Mother) and Sonny Olsen (Brother). Along with her husband of 65 years, she is survived by her sister, Loretta Wirth of Charleston, her son, Robert Herbert (Lisa) of Charleston, SC; her daughters, Terri Rodgers (Johnny) of Lebanon, TN, Barbara Hinton (Allen) of Charleston, SC, and Sandy Sawyer (Bill) of Charleston, SC; her grandchildren, Brian Hinton (Jessica), Brandon Hinton (Angela), Ryan Rodgers (Katie), Griffin Herbert, Kennedy Herbert, Taylor Herbert, Betty Anne Sawyer, Paige Sawyer, Emily Herbert, and seven great-grandchildren.
