Betty Harrelson Obituary

Betty J. Harrelson MULLINS, SC - Miss Betty Jean Harrelson, 84, died Sunday, July 29, 2012, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence after an illness. Miss Harrelson was born October 29, 1927, in Marion County, a daughter of the late Charlie and Maggie Norton Harrelson. She was a real estate agent and office manager for George Poole, Inc. Miss Harrelson, a leader in the community of Mullins, was an avid supporter of the Epworth Orphanage, and the S.C. Educational Television. She was a graduate of Nichols High School, Winthrop College and had received her Masters Degree from Francis Marion University. Miss Harrelson was a very active member and leader of her church, Macedonia United Methodist Church. Surviving Miss Harrelson are: a niece, Susan Jones of Charleston; two nephews, Mike (Ginger) Jones of Panama City, FL, and Charles Jones of Stem, NC; two great-nieces, Michelle (Ricky) Carleton and Karen (Joey) Laymon; a great-nephew, Nicholas Jones; four great-great-nephews, Jacob, Jesse, Ryan and Mason; and her cousins, Trina Edgerton of Florence, Barbara Carter of Mt. Pleasant, Sheila Baxter of Tabor City, NC, Harvey "Buddy" Barfield, Jr., of Tabor City, NC, and Will Harrelson of Mullins. Miss Harrelson was predeceased by two sisters, Gertrude "Jake" H. Jones and Ina "Pete" H. Lewis and a brother Louis "Bud" Harrelson. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 1, at Millers United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Kem Thomas and the Rev. Greg Black officiating. Burial will follow in Millers United Methodist Church Cemetery, directed by Cox-Collins Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at Miss Harrelson's home at 502 N. Park St., Mullins.
