Betty Grooms Obituary

Betty J. Grooms SUMMERVILLE - Betty J. Grooms, 68, of Summerville, widow of Marvin P. Grooms, died Friday, December 17, 2010, at Hospice of Charleston. Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at 2 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville. Burial will follow at Dorchester Memory Gardens, 11000 Dorchester Road, Summerville. A visitation will be held Monday evening at the funeral home from 6 to 8 o'clock. Flowers will be accepted. Mrs. Grooms was born February 19, 1942, in St. George, daughter of the late Willie Harbeson and Mary Ann Harbeson. She attended St. George Schools. Mrs. Grooms loved the outdoors and sitting on her porch in her rocking chair. She loved flowers, sewing, painting and drawing. She was always helping others but most of all she loved her children, grandchildren and great-grand children. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Summerville. She worked with the American Red Cross in Charleston as a Nurse's Assistant. Survivors include one daughter; Brenda Habersham (Franklin) of Summerville, one son; Donnell Grooms (Mary) of Cottageville, grandchildren; Shannon Wood-Bray, Amelia Wood, David Driggers Grooms, Donnell N. Grooms, Danielle Grooms, Christy Grooms and Jarrid Grooms, Step Grand Children; Bill Driggers, James Taylor and Inie Driggers and fourteen great-grandchildren, two brothers; Roland Harbeson and LeRoy Harbeson, three sisters; Mary Grooms Bartholow, Ruth Mizzell and Eunice Hawkins and a host of nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons; David Marvin Grooms and Russell Marvin Grooms and two brothers; George Harbeson and Ray Mallard.
