Betty Gosnell Obituary

Betty Freeland Arnold Gosnell SUMMERVILLE - Betty Freeland Arnold Gosnell, 97 years old, widow of Frank Herbert Arnold, Jr. and James B. Gosnell Sr., entered into eternal rest on March 4, 2023. Her funeral service will be Saturday, March 11, 2023, at 11:00 am at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel, 3360 Glenn McConnell Parkway, Charleston, SC 29414. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens following the service. Betty was born September 19, 1925, in Crowley, LA, the youngest of five children of Jay Clark and Jessie Barr Freeland. Betty was a life-long Presbyterian and since 1958 was an active member of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, serving in many activities, especially in the choir for 50 years. Mrs. Gosnell is survived by her son, Frank H. Arnold (Ron Hodge) of Bluffton, SC; daughter, Barbara A. Harper (Pinckney) of Charleston, SC; granddaughter, Kristi A. Carter (Chris) of Ohio; grandson, David A. Andrews (Gabriella); and great-grandson, Charlie F. Andrews of Charleston, SC; stepson, James B. Gosnell Jr. of Charleston, SC; stepdaughter, Jennifer G. Pernell (Greg) of Charleston, SC; many nieces and nephews; step-grandchildren: John Harper, Jeff Grissom (Joni), JC Grissom (Emily), Jeffery & Jace Grissom, Jordan G. Luisi (Grant), Susan Baldwin (Jody), Joseph Heuer (Isabel), Joseph Ingram (Hannah), Jackson Gosnell (Lori), and Hannah Stone (Colby); and many great-grandchildren. Betty traveled extensively during her lifetime, mainly as a Navy wife. She was known for her beautiful voice, cooking delicious food, and entertaining friends and family. She took great joy in her family and often said that she had a good life. She lives on forever in all our hearts. The family wishes to thank ALL of the incredibly wonderful angels at The Village of Summerville where Betty lived happily for the past 5 years as well as the comforting staff of Bayada Hospice who cared for her this past month. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Employee Appreciation Fund at The Village of Summerville, 201 W. 9th North Street, Unit #140, Summerville, SC 29483, or to St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 712 Wappoo Rd., Charleston, SC 29407. Barbara and family,
I was so saddened to hear of Betty's passing. She certainly lived a long and full life at 97 but that doesn't make it any easier. Her entering the Church Triumphant will still leave a void here on earth. But eternity is forever and we will be with her again. Just think - With my Mother playing the organ and Betty's angelic voice, Heaven's Choir just stepped up their game !
