Betty Frampton Obituary

Betty Davis Frampton COLUMBIA, SC - Betty Davis Frampton, who possessed a spacious heart for family, an inquisitive mind, a creative spirit, a penchant for homemaking and true grit, died peacefully on July 8. She was born on March 20, 1939 in Monetta, SC to Oscar Ward Davis and Jannie Ruth McCullough Davis. Betty spent her teenage years in the Park Circle neighborhood of North Charleston, SC. When she reached the home of a certain young man on her daily walk to North Charleston High School, she put an extra swing in her hips. Charles H. Frampton, watching her sashay by, declared to his mother that he would marry that girl. And so he did. Betty, now reunited with her high school sweetheart, remains cherished in memory by her family and friends. Betty and Charles established their first home in West Palm Beach, FL, where she zipped around in a red MG purchased with her BellSouth telephone operator salary. They made lifelong friends and memories there as well as Asheville, NC, Mt. Pleasant, SC and Chesapeake, VA. A consummate homemaker and hostess, Betty created a warm and hospitable home and mastered a wide repertoire of recipes. A seamstress of no small talent, she sewed her wedding dress from a Vogue pattern and countless costumes, hems, dresses, Wando marching band uniforms and flags and home decor. She read voraciously and cultivated a love of books in her children and grandchildren. Betty leaves behind an extensive library which over her final decades spilled from the bookshelves of her cozy, wood paneled den into tidy towers of books around her house. Betty avidly read the Post and Courier from front to back and was known to have called the P&C offices to chide them over their college football coverage which was routinely biased against her Clemson Tigers in favor of those (insert expletive) 'cocks. She was not short on strong opinions. She was a longtime member of Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, participating in Presbyterian Women's Circle 3 and the SAGE Council. An educator at heart, Betty taught four-year-old kindergarten at the Presbyterian Learning Center for over a decade. Betty delighted in all things bright and beautiful, especially curious children, birds at her window and nature's pulchritude. She was a member and past-president of the Groves Garden Club until the chapter retired its charter. She received numerous blue ribbons for her stunning Ikebana style floral arrangements at the Coastal Carolina Fair. Betty enjoyed witty conversation, a smart game of Bridge, an early morning yard sale, and a crisp Diet Coke. From her perch at the end of the long kitchen table, she fed her family, cut fabric, aced sudoku, kept an eye on the neighbors and entertained her five beloved grandchildren with games, felt boards and art projects. Betty was predeceased by her husband of 41 years, Charles; her son, Charles "Chussey" Hay Frampton, Jr.; her daughter, Jennifer Frampton Mendola; her parents and younger sister, Kathy Davis. She is survived by her daughters, Caroline (Schell) Carson of Columbia, SC and Margaret (David) Beamguard of Seven Lakes, NC; her son-in-law, Larry Mendola of Huntington Beach, CA; her grandchildren, Charles Mendola, Camille and Christian Carson, and Charlotte and Norah Beamguard, her sister, Shirley (Tom) Hopper and a large extended family. A service of the Witness to the Resurrection will be held at noon on July 13 at Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church with Pastor Ellen Creed Branham officiating. You may livestream this service by going to the church website at https://mppc.net/watch-live/ . A reception will follow. A Service of Committal will be held at 3 p.m. at Carolina Memorial Garden. Memorials may be made to Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church or East Cooper Meals on Wheels. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. A memorial message may be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

What a lovely gracious Southern lady. I am so very sorry for your loss. I met sweet Ms. Betty with her beautiful peaches and cream complexion through our mutual friend, the late Mrs. Anne Fox, as they were avid Sunday Bridge players. They were quite a group of ladies.
Your mom was always so kind and quick to laugh. What joy and love she oozed. They probably have picked up a game already.

We are just learning of Ms. Betty's passing. We had no idea. She was sick and prayed that she went peacefully and hope that the family will cherish the wonderful memories. She was such a sweet neighbor and great friend.

Jelly Bean, as I called her, were NOCHAS classmates. I used to ride my horse from Fretwell St. up N. Rhett to her house and let her ride which she promptly bounced off. Great memories.
