Betty Donald Obituary

Betty Cook Donald WILMINGTON, NC - Betty Cook Verzaal Donald, 86, of Wilmington, N.C. died Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center. Betty was born September 8, 1928, to the late Grover H. Cook and Vanita Farrow Cook in Wilmington, N.C. She was one of nine children and was the last living sibling. She was predeceased by her brothers, Morris Cook, Calvin Cook, Russell Cook, Robert Cook and Lawrence Cook and her sisters, Ruby Ganey, Grace Hocutt and Neta Parrish and her first husband, John Verzaal, Jr. and her second husband, Clint Donald. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was a homemaker and excellent cook who loved to bake cakes and cookies for all her friends and family. Each year before Christmas, you could find her making handmade ornaments for those special people in her life. She was an active member of Long Leaf Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Dot Coleman (Jimmy) and Frances "Ginny" Verzaal Vail (David); two grandsons, Robert "Gene" Verzaal and Aaron Coleman; two great-granddaughters, Sydney Verzaal and Avery Verzaal; sister-in-law Sophia V. West and brother-in-law, Everett Parrish. She is also survived by two stepchildren, Kay Donald Bryant (Brian) and Ray Donald; five step grandchildren, Karen King, Kevin Donald, Stanley Bryant, Laura V. Rouse and Andrew Vail; three step great-grandchildren, Christina King, J.R. King, and Brittney Rouse, and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be Sunday, June 28, 2015, from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. at the Andrews Market Street Chapel. The funeral service will be Monday, June 29, 2015, at 2:00 P.M. with a one hour visitation prior to the service at Long Leaf Baptist Church and Jim Coates officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family wishes to thank the people who cared for her at Davita Dialysis and Silver Stream Health and Rehabilitation.
