Betsy Veronee Obituary

Betsy Jo Whaley Veronee CHARLESTON - Betsy Jo Whaley Veronee, 78, of Charleston, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024. The family will receive friends Thursday, June 13, 2024, in the J. Henry Stuhr West Ashley Chapel from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, where the Nurses Honor Guard of SC will conduct a prayer service at 7:00 PM. The Funeral Service will be held Friday, June 14, 2024, at Ashley River Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Burial will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens. Betsy was born on March 8, 1946 in Durham, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Amos Erwin Whaley and the late Ruby Maness Whaley Cook. She attended Durham High School and later went to college at Watts School of Nursing, where she became a Registered Nurse. After graduating from nursing school, she worked as an operating room nurse at Duke hospital for many years. Upon meeting her future husband and moving to Charleston, she worked at the VA hospital in the operating room. After a break to take care of her young children, she worked at the Navy Hospital for over 21 years before retiring in 2010. Betsy had the biggest heart and a generous spirit. Her warmth and loving nature drew people to her. Betsy loved being involved in whatever her family loved to do. From fun activities to taking family trips, which TV shows she would watch, sporting events, to plays and musicals; if it was something that her family enjoyed, she loved it. She had a quick wit and a lively sense of humor. You definitely needed to be on your toes to keep up with her! She was a devoted wife, mom, and grandma "Lala". She showed unwavering love and support for her family. She was Bubba and Kimberly's biggest cheerleader. Over the last two and half years her greatest joy has been spending time with her grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Betsy is survived by her husband of 41 years, Robert C. Veronee, Jr.; a daughter, Kimberly Lynn Veronee Blitch (Derek) of Charleston, SC; a son, Robert C. Veronee, III (Treva) of Charleston, SC; a brother, Michael E. Whaley (Joni) of Highpoint, NC; three grandchildren, Lincoln Blitch, Layne Blitch, and Na'Shon Inman; and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to Ashley River Baptist Church. 1101 Savannah Highway Charleston, SC 29407. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Betsy and I went to RN school at Watts. I had lost contact with her, but still had fond memories of our times together.
