Betsy Hampton Obituary

Betsy Howell Hampton August 12, 1949 – July 27, 2025 Summerville, South Carolina Betsy Howell Hampton, born Betsy Adams Howell, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2025, in Summerville, South Carolina. She was surrounded by her husband and family. Betsy was a force. You never had to wonder if she was in the room-you could feel her presence and hear her unmistakable, infectious laugh. Known by many names-Bets, Bopper, Booper, Boots, AB, Gabby, or Sissy-she was beloved by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. She never turned down a good time. Her go-to response to any invitation was famously, 'Where are we going and what are we wearing?' Betsy was born in Babylon, New York, on the South Shore of Long Island. Her childhood was full of joy and energy-skiing, sailing her Sunfish, and leading her classmates as captain of the Green Team at Hewlett School. Though she lived in many places throughout her life, Betsy always found her sense of home wherever her family was. One of her most cherished places was the family's beach house on Oak Island, where she created decades of meaningful memories. Early in her career, Betsy worked as a nurse in Atlanta. Fiercely intelligent and deeply compassionate, one of her proudest accomplishments was returning to school later in life to earn her MBA. She went on to serve as Vice President of Population Health at Reliant Medical Group, where her leadership, strategic insight, and empathy left a lasting impression on her colleagues and community. Betsy shared more than 40 years of love and laughter with her husband, Donald Wade Hampton. Together, they traveled the world, celebrated life with friends, and built a joyful home-always filled with poodles and cats. They lived in many places-from Georgia to New Hampshire-forming lifelong friendships along the way. Betsy and Don called Summerville, SC home for the past 5 years with their miniature poodle, Norman. Betsy is lovingly remembered by her: husband, Donald Wade Hampton, stepdaughter, Meredith Joan Hampton, siblings: John Rogers Howell II (Marianne), Susan Howell Moore (James), and Julie Howell Hehir (Brian); and by her nieces and nephew: Katherine Moore Walraven, Gwendolyn Moore Ross, Elizabeth Ford Moore, and Jackson Howell Hehir. Betsy was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Brown Howell and Suzanne Abbott Howell, and her brother, James Abbott Howell (Gwen). A celebration of Betsy's life will be held in Babylon, New York, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to Charleston Animal Society (https://charlestonanimalsociety.org/), in honor of her love for animals-especially her sweet Norman.
