Bessie G. Norton DILLON - Funeral services for Bessie G. Norton, age 95, will be held 3:00 p.m. Monday at Cooper Funeral Home in Dillon, SC and burial will follow in McLeod Cemetery on Cashua Ferry Road near Bingham, SC. Visitation is 7-9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home. She is predeceased by her husband LaFon Norton, three brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son Thomas L. Norton (Kalli), daughter Sallie Norton Pittman (Michael), granddaughters Katherine Pittman Reppe (Steve) and Jill Mara DeWesse-Frank (Michael) and grandsons James Taylor DeWeese and great-granddaughters Avery Grace Reppe and Katelyn Reece Reppe. Mrs. Norton was a member of Union United Methodist Church for thirty-four years, she was employed by the Dillon County Board of Education as the County School Food Service Supervisor. She was best known for her innovative methods of correlating the food service department with classroom activities such as health, math and other subjects where real food could play a part. Her belief was that learning could be fun by applying positive imagination and reaching out for individual participation would have good results. Mrs Norton served as a student mentor and a leader in practical arts class in a local junior high school. At the state level, she was treasurer of the School Lunch Division of the South Carolina State Department of Education for three years. The program later became the S.C. School Food Service. Mrs. Norton served as State President of the Association in the period 196-67. During that time, she was a featured speaker at the National School Food convention in Louisville, Kentucky. The family wishes to thank Mrs. Linda Craig and Mrs. Judy Fore for the devoted care they gave Mrs. Norton. Visit our guestbook at www.postandcourier.com/deaths

I am sorry to learn of "Miss" Bessie's passing. The memories we all have growing up will always be treasured. I will never forget the Saturday evening square dancing at Pee Dee Park with your parents and the fun times we had. Your mother was always such a sweet lady and so thoughtful. Mom and Dad cherished your parents friendship, but oh what a glorious reunion they are having now in Heaven. Just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,
Annelle Gaddy Collins
