We all grew up together and as we got older we grew apart. It is with deep pain and sorrow that I submit this message. It was an honor to have shared a small portion of my life as his friend. God will comfort us in our sorrow. May He comfort the entire family.

I was numb and really couldn't find the words to truly express how I felt when I heard about this tragedy. My thoughts and prayers are with the Green family during this difficult time.

I did not know Bervin personally but I met him and knew of him through mutual friends. I just want to tell his family to stay strong and cherish the time they have left with one another because as you just witnessed, life can be and is to short, so live it to the fullest for Bervin. I feel your pain from experience so keep your head up and God will help you through this.

Bervin and I have been friends for a long time. We were classmates/teammates through both middle school and high school. Seventeen years ago, I moved to Florida. When I would come back to South Carolina to visit my parents he and I used to reminisce about our days playing for Middleton. It seems like yesterday Bervin, Irvin and I were talking trash to the older guys playing 3 on 3 at Orange Grove Park. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Bervin will be greatly missed.

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

Bervin became a member of my family back in the Spring/Summer of 1992. He and his brother Irvin attended Charleston Southern with my cousin Toosha. We treated them as family from Day 1. He also loved us like family. I saw Bervin some months prior and was pleased to see him. I tried my best to stay in contact with him, but our lives and schedules conflicted. Bervin acted as a big brother to me during my adolescent years and he dared anyone to bother us. He was very protective, extremely respectful, and was afraid of no one. Anyone who met him could immediately tell that he had a very good upbringing, filled with lots of love and respect.

I will miss my brother, Bervin. I do not know what changed in him over the last month, but knowing him personally, I could never imagine him hurting anyone.

Love and Miss you. My prayers go out to the Green Family.

My dearest and lifetime friend from approx. 1960 to this day, I am so terribly sorry for your loss, as well as Alvin, Irvin, Ebony, “Bervin’s children’s, your father, sister’s, and other family members.
I do not know what to say; however, just know that you have family and friends to lean on and who will support you through this, and please know that I am more than happy to extend my support to you and your family.
After I relocated from Charleston to Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area, in the early “70”s, I continued to visit my family and friends in Charleston with my daughter Stacy; and then spending her last two high school years in Charleston, you became her auntie “Bernetta” and “Alvin” became her uncle Alvin, Bervin and Irvin became her cousins.
My lifetime friend and “Sister” it is beyond my comprehension and however, I cannot begin to imagine the depth of pain you are experiencing.
May God bless you and your family, and may he wrap his arms around you tight during the most difficult time in your lives.

All the boys wanted to be like Mike & he was no different. He kept a ball in his hands and friends near. Those were the good old days! I can't possibly imagine what you are going through now but put your trust in the LORD and he will see you though. Hold on tight to each other because during these times it will be the LOVE & STRENGTH of family that will help you make it day by day. You will all be in our prayers.

Irvin My heart goes out to you, stay strong and hold on to your brothers love. Bervin is gone but never forgotten. If you would like to talk you know how to reach my Daddy I'm just a call away.

There are no words for this situation. To lose Bervin at such a young age is shocking.
My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. No matter what always remember that The Lord will take each of you through all of this.
Remember to hold on to The Lord no matter how long, narrow, or rocky the road may be.

To the my loving family,

We as a family will stand with God on our side; we shall make it. I know that all hearts are heavy and the waters are troubled but this storm to shall past. To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

TO MR. AND MRS. GREEN ALSO TO ERVIN. I'M TRULY SORRY FOR YOUR GREAT LOSS. I REMEMBER GOING TO DRAYTON HALL AND MIDDLETON HIGH WITH BOTH ERVIN AND BERVIN. MY SISTER AND I WAS ALWAYS ENCOURAGED BY EVERYONE THAT WE ALL SHOULD DOUBLE DATE BECAUSE WE ALL WERE TWINS. BUT OF COURSE THAT NEVER HAPPEN, BUT INSTEAD A FRIENDSHIP WAS CREATED FROM IT AND THAT IS SOMETHING THAT I WILL ALWAYS CHEERISH. SO TAKE CARE ERVIN AND FAMILY AND KNOW THAT GOD IS GOOD IN ALL WAYS AND HE NEVER TAKE AWAY WITH OUT GIVING BACK. SO KEEP ALL EYES ON THE SPARROW FOR YOU WILL SEE HIM AGAIN.

Be still like the grass on a melancholy summer day

TWO YEARS AGO, I WAS A NEW FACE TO JAMES ISLAND, BUT AN OLD FRIEND OF IRVIN AND BERVIN. WE WENT TO DRAYTON HALL MIDDLE SCHOOL. TO THEIR PARENTS, THEIR SIBLINGS, CHILDREN, FAMILY MEMBERS, AND FRIENDS, I AM TRULY SORRY FOR OUR LOSS.

Bervin and I were middle and highschool mates. Although I haven't seen him in years, he will b missed. May the God of all Comfort and Peace guard and keep your hearts and minds during this sorrwful time. God loves u and so do I.

My family's prayers go out to the Green family in this time of grieving. From one of the kids that grew up with Bervin in Lenevar, we have lost a brother.
