Our hearts grieve for your loss. A lifetime of memories you shared with Judge Fielding is one which I am sure will take you through this difficult time. I have lost one whom I considered a true friend. I am most thankful for the privilege he extended in allowing me to provide for his care. Most of all his persuasion through his life’s experiences encouraged me to stay in Charleston – a place I truly came to love. I sincerely miss him, not for his family history, but mostly for the person he showed me that he was. An admirable and caring man who was principled, proud, steadfast, and full of integrity.

Mrs. Fielding, I am sorry and sad to hear this news about Judge. I remember your husband as being a very kind and patience man when I worked for him in the law office with Forrest W. Compton, Esq.. I will always treasure those years. Time waits for no one and the years have just flown by. Love to you, Bernie, Connie and all family members. Extending my heart felt sympathy.

Conchita and family,

We are so saddened by your loss. We have so many joyous memories to cherish. Always a man who was well-dressed with a friendly smile and soft spoken voice. A historical giant in civil rights, and calm force in the family circle.

Oh, the parties we had will forever float through my mind. I remember our last big occasion together when Mark and Amy got married. We had a ball all afternoon into the night before saying goodbye the next day. May such memories bring a warm feeling to your hearts as it does ours.

Love, Linda and DJ Watts

There is very little that I can say or do to alleviate the heavy-hearted moment. Uncle Nardy was a guiding light throughout my life and I am privileged, perhaps blessed, to have him as a mentor. I am honored to have grown up with him, Aunt Chita, Bernie and Connie. You all are a huge part of my life and I share your pain with you. I am here when you’re ready. A man’s legacy is not what he achieved while he is here but the impact that he continues to have after he is gone. I will carry his memory to the end of days. My love and hugs to all.

Susan and I wish to send our condolences on the death of Judge Fielding, who we hold in the highest esteem. He was a great lawyer and judge and a good friend of my late father, Morris D. Rosen. I always enjoyed my conversations with him, his wit, humor and insights into Charleston history and politics. He will be missed by both the legal community and greater community. But for COVID we would attend the wake.

Dear Family of Judge Fielding,
I did not know the Judge personally, but I remember his kindness when I was soliciting ads for the reunion booklet of the Class of 1966. He was one of the funeral homes in the area that gave a donation. I'll always be grateful to him for that.
Sleep on Judge Fielding.

My deepest sympathies to Judge Fielding's family. I had the privilege of spending some time with him as an attorney helping Judge Fielding and others form a nonprofit to protect historic cemeteries in Charleston. I loved his wit and his kindness, and greatly admired his dedication to public service! Such a loss for Charleston. May his memory be a blessing.

I am deeply saddened to learn of the transition of my longtime friend Bernard Fielding. Together we fought and won a floor fight at the 1970 State Democratic Convention to remove the party’s pro-segregation plank from that year’s party platform. Reporters at the time and historians refer to it as the high water mark of segregation politics in the state party platform. In 1994, I was privileged to provide political campaign services for his unsuccessful effort to win re-election as Probate Judge of Charleston County. Bernard and I were honored over the years by several groups for our work in the Civil Rights Movement. He had a remarkable life full of integrity, intelligence and wit. I extend my sincere sympathies to Conchita and the entire Fielding family. We have lost a wonderful leader and family man and I am planning to attend services once they are announced. God rest his soul.

My deepest condolences to Conchita and family. Bernard's many achievements and contributions as an Attorney, Judge, Businessman, and loyal Alumnus of Hampton University will be remembered always. It was Bernard who convinced me, when I was a senior in high school, to attend Hampton when I attended a Burke High School College Night. Once I heard his presentation, there was no question about where I would attend college. Thank you, Bernard! May you rest in eternal peace.

So sorry to learn of Bernard Fielding's passing. He was a gentlemanly scholar and a quiet advocate for equal rights for all. His generation brought us through difficult times, and his life should serve as an example for us in these difficult times and times to come.

To Connie and family...my heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with you and your family! "The Judge" and my family, especially my late mother were friends , and I appreciated the advice, and concern that he provided during a trying time in my life. When I would see him, I would always say.... " He... you look just like Rep. Kay Patterson!" In return, "The Judge" would say.... "Oh No!!!! There's a (used other words) that there's a man in Charleston, SC that he looks like! I'm better looking!!" We would laugh after that. Connie, and family, remember the memories, for that is something that no one can take from you! Now "The Judge" has a new robe, new walk, new address and a new talk! Take your rest "The Judge!" I will miss seeing you going into Arrow's Cleaners on Rutledge Ave., and then informing Connie that I saw my friend... "The Judge!" Servant of God well done...Rest!
