We are so sorry to have just hear about about Rut's passing. I know he had been very sick and he handled his illness with the same honor and dignity as he lived his life. Our prayers are with you and your family at this difficult time. I was lucky to have shared a few times with Rut and you discussing our love of fishing and bird shooting.

Frida,
Gary and I were so sorry to read of Rutledge's passing. You were terrific neighbors when we moved in on 44th. Never will forget your letting us stay in the garage apartment until we could get properly moved in. Also remember fondly the little leaf "crowns" you made for Zack and Emory as they watched the goldfish swim around. You were such role models of a happy couple. God grant you comfort in your great loss.
Love,
Martha and Gary Nesbit and boys

I knew Rutledge, when he was a student at Episcopal High School, and I was about 7 yrs old. My family stayed on Johns' Island every summer, thanks to Owen Geer, for about 2 weeks in the '50s. He and other EHS students visited us, there. He was always nice to me at that age, on. When I was a student /boarder at Ashley Hall, I would run into him on the streets of Charleston. He was always polite, but also, very funny. I always enjoyed seeing him.
Many years later, I saw him at an EHS function, and he still remained very polite and very funny. He made me laugh about living at Episcopal, and all our years there.
I am sorry for your loss. He was a great person. I remember his wonderful Charleston accent, which I loved to hear.
I hope that his family will know how much he will be missed by others. I am glad that I knew him, in my life.
May God be with him and his family.
Sincerely,
Alicia Bee Ravenel
