Benjamin Montgomery Obituary

MONTGOMERY, B. Entered into eternal rest on the morning of March 26, 2009, Benjamin Hugh Montgomery, husband of Betty Bradley Montgomery. Residence, Charleston, South Carolina. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Montgomery are invited to attend his funeral service in J. HENRY STUHR, INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL (3360 Glenn McConnell Pkwy.), Saturday morning, March 28, 2009, at eleven o'clock. Burial will follow in Carolina Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Stuhr's West Ashley Chapel this Friday evening from five until seven o'clock. Mr. Montgomery was born June 16, 1941 in Kingstree, South Carolina, son of the late Solomon Leard Montgomery and the late Caroline Elizabeth Moseley Montgomery. He was a graduate of Chicora High School and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1997 from George Meany School of Labor Studies. He was a member of Cherokee United Methodist Church and was retired from Westvaco Papermill after 32 years of service and also retired from United Steel Workers Union (formerly United Paper Workers). Benjamin was a lifetime member and Past President of West Ashley Optimist Club and volunteered his services as a coach and umpire of baseball at St. Andrews Park and Playground and he also umpired high school and American Legion baseball. In addition to his wife Betty of 37 years; he is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sara (Jeanie) and Jeffrey Motes of Guyton, GA, a son and daughter-in-law, Roddy and Maritza Traxler of Charleston; three beloved grandchildren, Turner Benjamin Motes, Caroline Motes, and Mery Traxler; a brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Sherri Montgomery of North Charleston, sister-in-law, Christine Montgomery of Summerville; and other family members, Teresa Lioi, Margie Fox, Louis Bradley, and Rickey Bradley. Mr. Montgomery was preceded in death by a brother, Solomon Leard Montgomery, Jr. and a sister, Sara Stamey.
