He was honorably discharged from the Army as a Captain. After the Army, he earned an MBA from the State University of NY in Albany, and pursued post-graduate studies at New York University. The West Point motto of "Duty, Honor, Country" would remain imprinted on his character, and he continued to serve his community throughout his life. Over a long period, he was active in a number of South Carolina community organizations including the College of Charleston Foundation, the Medical University of South Carolina, and the South Carolina Aquarium. In New Jersey, he was appointed by the Governor to serve on the State Local Finance Commission, and also served on several non-profit boards. He was a good athlete and was dedicated to physical fitness, continuing his daily routine of jogging six miles even after his diagnosis and treatment for leukemia. After retiring, he climbed the Matterhorn, Mt. Kilimanjaro, Mt. Whitney, and with his sons, Mt. Rainer. His most prized treasures were his family and friends. Dear Cathy, I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend, Ben, and true gentleman. We worked together with Wayne Corley on a project for Horry County many years ago. I last saw Ben at Tim Scott's birthday event some weeks ago. I am deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a great American and a dear friend.

Ben Marino was my uncle and godfather, and his wife, Cathy Marino, my mother's only sister and my godmother. my heart
aches for the loss of my very
distinguished, accomplished,
and generous uncle. I will
remember his dry sense of
humor, his frequent back rubs,
his athleticism, his commitment
to health, and his unparalleled
attention to detail. He could
spot a rogue lintball on an
imported chinese carpet from
his car idling in the driveway;
as impressive was his ability to
swiftly seize upon the unsightly
fuzzy intruder before the rest
of us had unbuckled our
seatbelts. A man who loved
his family, gave generously to
various social and educational
causes, I believe he will be
remembered most as a man of courage, high principles, and an enthusiastic liver of live. I suspect his next
challenge will involve exploring
the infitinite landscape of
heaven. I will miss my uncle
ben for the rest of my life. My
thoughts and prayers are with
my aunt cathy, my cousins and
their children, and all of
ben's family and friends. I love
you all. Peace be with you, my Uncle Ben.
