Beatrice Rose Obituary

Beatrice Christina Rose MT. PLEASANT - Beatrice Christina Rose, 88, peacefully left this world on September 6th to be reunited with her adoring sisters and parents, Thomas and Charlotte Whelan of Dungarvan Ireland and New York City. Beatrice will be deeply missed by her three children, Christina Rose of New London, CT, Bob Rose (Ellen) of South Salem, NY, and Tom Rose (Marilyn) of MT Pleasant, SC as well as her six grandchildren, (Steph, Nick, Jess, Max, Billy and Caroline) each of whom she loved with all of her enormous heart. Bea was born in New York City on December 5, 1932 and attended Cathedral High for Girls in Manhattan, graduating in the class of 1950, which her sisters, Johanna and Charlotte worked and sacrificed to pay for. She married Robert B. Rose, Sr. in 1951 and they raised their family both in Huntington, Long Island and in Rowayton, CT before she moved on her own to Vero Beach, FL and later to Mt. Pleasant, SC. Though she and Bob divorced in 1976, she always had a soft spot in her heart for him. Bea was a long-time Nurse's Aide and Transportation Director at Fairfield Manor in Norwalk, CT and was the first recipient of their Nursing Practitioner scholarship, which allowed her to study to become an LPN at the age of 60, fulfilling one of her lifelong dreams. Beatrice was widely known for her compassion and genuine bed-side manner which was second to none. Bea was the epitome of Irish; resilient, stubborn and tough as nails but warm, fun-loving and entertaining with a quickness of wit which delighted those around her right up until she passed on. Bea overcame more obstacles in her life than seemed fair, but never stopped laughing and bringing joy to those around her. Beatrice had a deep and unequivocal faith and devotion to the Catholic church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. From very humble beginnings, Beatrice worked hard to make ends meet her entire life. When in college, it was fairly common to receive a check in the mail from our Mom for $3.85 or $4.13, which was all she had and preferred us to have it. Bubbie Bea was a cherished Grandmother for both her thoughtfulness and her zaniness. Whether it was a birthday, or Easter or St. Patrick's Day, her love overflowed to her family in the form of loving cards, Paddy's Pence or checks for $5.85. Bubbie Bea never missed recognizing and celebrating an occasion and sharing her affection for us all. Today in Heaven there are three sisters indulging in a long-awaited re-union and one intense scrabble game. Services will be held in Hicksville, NY over Thanksgiving weekend and Bea will be laid to rest with her parents and sisters in Farmingdale, New York. Thank you very much to the team at Sweetgrass Court, where she passed on Labor Day, many of you were touched by Beatrice's personality and tolerated her Irish stubbornness. You all are saints for what you do. Visit our guestbook at legacy.com/obituaries/charleston

My dearest mama, you were unique on earth and no doubt charming everyone in heaven right now. There are no words for how much I´m going to miss you but I rest easy knowing you are now surrounded by all those who once called you Baby Bea. I won´t say Rest In Peace because I know you will be dancing and singing and laughing as the life of the family party once again. My dear dear mama, I love you more.
